What can I give a nearly 9 month old for tea?

DD is nearly 9 months old - weaning going okish - she's not wild about food but she tries some meals and ignores others. She's been having meat/protein since 7 months old for lunch and I've been giving her veg purees for tea followed by yoghurt but I've started thinking that she needs something more like a proper tea. Just found on holiday that she far prefers nice shop bought food eg Ella's kitchen to food I've lovingly prepared for her - bah!

Day before yesterday I tried her with courgette puree and pasta (mini shells) which she liked as she loves courgette, yesterday tried her with tomato and cream cheese sauce with pasta and wouldn't eat any. Any other ideas please about what I could give her for tea other than pasta?

Thanks

If shes having a cooked lunch, then all she needs for tea is sandwiches/beans on toast/scrambled eggs/omlette - that sort of thing

cheers - i've never tried her with any of those........I think I'm a bit of a coward weaning her.

She's never really seemed to get the hang of bread/toast yet - she tries it at breakfast but i can't say she eats any - mostly it gets thrown over the high chair (which the cat likes) and I'm not sure if she'd get the hang of eating solids - she's only got 1 tooth at the moment - aargghh hate weaning.

I blw mine but agree if she is having a good meal at lunch try not to worry about tea too much. But mashed pot with some veg sticks or roasted veg if she likes stuff like courgette. Porridge or weetabix? Banana and avocado?

My DS only started tea at 9 months and only at about 10 months did he seem to eat properly. Teething put him off though.
He seems to prefer food chopped up so he can pick it up and decide if he likes.
For tea I made meals because he never has huge amounts at lunch. Basic stuff like chicken and chips, burgers/meatballs and mash, tuna&rice. I avoid eggs or veg as makes him windy at night.

thanks for these ideas.

She's had today about 1/2 a pack of ella's fish pie and dropped all the mango over the side - not sure if that's a good meal or not? She is only 13lb 10 at the moment and she's never had a great appetite - which is why she's on prescription milk for weight gain.

I've been trying to avoid giving her 2 meals with protein in but was hinking she might need carbohedrate's instead?

I give DS two meals with a tiny bit of protein but more carbs. He usually has a little bit of the meat/fish and loads of carbs. I had read somewhere that babies need about 50g of protein a day - I measured it out and it wasn't much at all!

I find he does better if he had loads of carbs and less protein. Some days he'll eat more protein, some days less. But he loves his carbs.

He's also on 4-5 milk feeds a day which gives him his fat and calcium etc etc (he can't have dairy or soya).

Just a thought - does your DD prefer the pouches because they are smoother?

Liskey · 15/09/2010 13:38

quite possibly but i was just pleased she seemed to like something after days of her spitting out food I'd spent hours preparing :)

She's also on 4/5 milk feeds and still having a dream feed as I don't think she'd go through the night at the moment.

Yes I know what you mean! I try not to get upset when DS chucks my cooked food but if I eat it myself, all of a sudden he wants it Grin

My DS is nearly 1 and has slept until 3/4am a few times. So not sleeping through yet but he'll get there I'm sure...

Igglybuff · 15/09/2010 13:43

Oh I mentioned the smooth thing because when DS was teething with his top two teeth at 8 months, he hated anything touching his gums so would only eat food that was smooth and usually cold.

Liskey · 15/09/2010 13:50

ahh she has cut her first tooth last week - whilst on holiday - that would explain that!

She usually goes through till 4/5 - today was 6 so a lie-in but she hasn't had enough milk yet to make up for missing that early feed out - another thing i worry about with her. I worry far too much.

DS practically lived on jacket potato with pesto from 9-18 months.

Quick and easy to cook, easy for them to eat, all good :-)

There are pine nuts in pesto though so watch out if there are any allergies.

Liskey · 15/09/2010 14:06

ah another good idea - i have a jar of pesto in the fridge - i also have a basil plant but am very lazy.....

Ah Liskey there's always something to worry about. Your DD will ask for a feed or take more if she's hungry. Some days she'll eat more, others less!

Liskey · 15/09/2010 17:46

i'm very good at worrying! she won't eat anything tonight tried cream cheese on bagel plus yoghurt but i can see her 2nd bottom tooth just emerging so i know the reason

Mine loves stew - I make it with massive lumps of carrot/swede/parsnip which he picks up and stuffs in his mouth. I suppose he gets the meaty taste but in an easy-to-chew package Grin
