Broccoli

I did BLW with my now 1yo. He has a variety of foods, and will eat most things. However he refuses broccoli. Always has. I give it to him at least once a week since he was 6 months.

He sniffs it, licks it and then throws it over the side.

I have tried a variety of ways to hide it, but he will always find it and chuck it over the edge.

I thought BLW meant they would eat anything!

No, I've got a broccoli refuser too!

Exactly the same behaviour- he will eat it if it is covered in cheese sauce though Smile

Guess we can't all like everything.

That was so weird to read your DS was one... then I remembered DD is too!
My DD (BLW also) will still eat broccoli sometimes, though not with the gusto she did at 5 months. Sometimes she just laughs at it. Does refuse some other things, particularly banana - absolutely no chance of her eating any of that!
Apart from the broccoli, how is he? And you?

Ha! He finds broccoli hilarious. He eats most things, still not overly keen on meat. His favourite is potato and banana.

He is great generally, although I can't believe he is 1! I keep forgetting when people ask!

Rice is also extremely amusing. And so bloody hard to clean up! It gets everywhere (and she isn't particularly 'throwy'). Glad things are good for you now.

Just because you've done BLW doesn't mean they will take to all foods all the time. At 2.8, my DS has just come round to red peppers, being presented with them probably 3 times a week for over 2 years - that's 300 loads of red peppers he's refused and has just decided that they are ok to eat! I just present whatever I want in a meal, knowing full well that some will be refused, as at some point, he will try it (in order to have another bit of sausage, etc). Just keep presenting the broccoli and he'll eat it again soon.

Yes, we have fun with rice. Sprinkles absolutely everywhere!

Everyone has different likes and dislikes - do you truly love every fruit and vegetable?

FWIW, I BLW with my DS and he has always eaten a broad range of foods (definitely couldn't class him as fussy) but there are plenty of things he won't eat that I am a bit Confused about - e.g. will only eat the little beans inside green beans, or will eat cheese on pasta and soup but not on its own. He only started liking broccoli at age 2 and carrots at the age of 2.3. We're currently working on beetroot - he will have beetroot soup and say it is delicious and is interested enough to take little nibbles of whole beetroot, but has yet to eat a decent amount of it like that. So we are just having it reasonably often at the moment so he is exposed to it a lot in the hope that he will eventually just accept it is tasty and normal.

Don't worry about it, just keep putting it on the plate! Also maybe try it as big florets one day, or as smaller pieces another, sometimes quite soft, other times quite crunchy etc. DS actually started eating carrots raw first, and then moved onto cooked - wish I'd tried raw first as I just assumed cooked would be the way for him to get to like them.

My LO wouldn't touch broccoli ( the book said it's perfect, even has it's own handle, yeh right Grin ) So we tried purple sprouting broccoli, loved it, will now eat much cheaper normal broccoli, though he eats the 'handle' first.
I agree he is allowed to not like everything.

My DS1 liked broccoli at that age but now age three, he has decided he no longer likes it! He was such a good eater but now all of a sudden he has started to turn his nose up to certain foods. They aren't going to like everything, just as adults don't!
