a poo question!

Since starting to wean DD, her pooing habits seem to have become rather erratic. She has been on baby porrige/purees for about 2 weeks now and she can go for 2-3 days without pooing...when she does is is quite solid/dry (not hard) rather than soft and squidgy. Is she constipated? Is this normal? I wondered if maybe she's not getting enough fluid as she rarely has water with her food? Does she need more fruit?

Please advise?

I had similar problem with DS. Doctor said it was just his body adapting to new fibre in food.

Is she uncomfortable when she goes? When DS gets constipated, he is really unhappy about going & the whole world knows about it!
If its like this, see your doctor. They can have a good feel of her tummy & prescribe lactulose if neccessary.

Keep offering water & keep up with milk feeds.

You could try adding some prunes to a puree or a little prune juice in porriage.

Also have you done any baby massage? If not I'm sure there are probably videos on youtube of some helpful techniqes. Things like rubbing tummy in a clockwise direction is suppost to help gut movement.

thanks houmous but her guts have now moved!! After a few small, dryish poos, we had a massive full gooey, nappy today after her lunch. Maybe it's just her body adating as you say, as she didn't seem to be bothered by it, it was just me worrying!

DS's is very variable - mainly roll-off-the-nappy solid ones but with a few squishy ones in between!

DD went 6 days without a poo not so long ago (then gargantuan amounts to make up for it) and like yours, her "output" has been rather erratic since starting on solids. But she seems ok. If your DD seems comfortable, I wouldn't worry about it!
