Transporting frozen puree for a day out?!!

Hi, I have just started weaning my dd using purees I have prepared, and we are in the second week. So far, all feeds have been at home, but does anyone bother transporting home made purees that have been frozen when they go out, or is it easier to use shop-bought? How on earth do people manage to heat the puree/keep it frozen until needed?! Confused

Thanks

Surely you just take it out frozen and it defrosts and is hopefully defrosted by the time you need it

few cubes of frozen puree in a pot, in a small cool bag. Add a cool pack and a couple of frozen frubes and you'll end up having to defrost it all in warm water before you use it.

Unless it's unseasonably warm, you'll be fine.

Or you could just take breadsticks and cheese :)

I used the little insulated bowls, and basically transport it with a flask of hot water - often finding it easier to mix some hot (boiled) water and some baby rice with the fruit puree rather than attempt to heat it.

And yes, jars are way way easier. But one of my three wouln't eat anything at all out of a jar Hmm

i think they just take it out frozen, let it start defrosting, and ask a cafe to heat it up or use those bottle warmer flask things. or, like you say, use a jar or those pouches instead.

otherwise you could just take a banana or avocado and give that to your baby. lots of folk don't wean with purees at all, so avoid the need to transport and re heat etc.

btw, take the frozen cube (assuming you're freezing in ice cube trays or similar) and it's nice and cold but thawed by the time you want it Wink sorry I missed that bit out, meant to put it when I said we transported it in the bowls....

Yes! mashed banana and avocado.

Or.. just give her a piece of toast!

A lot of cafes won't heat homemade baby food but will do jars, citing health and safety. Take a banana and mash it! Easy peasy.

Thanks so much! Really quick and useful replies!

I am freezing cubes in ice trays - thought I'd give it a go, and have given her a couple of sticks of apple to gum on too! How obvious was taking a banana or avocado?! Think it's probably my bedtime as I hadn't even thought of that! Blush

Thanks again!

Once you get past the initial stage frozen frubes are your friend :)

Are you giving her slices of fresh apple? I'd be careful - it breaks easily and is a bit of a choking hazard. But yy to ripe banana or avocado, either as finger food or mashed it's a winner.
