I want to switch to BLW is it too late (DD is 7 months)

My baby girl is just under 7 months now. She was breast fed apart from the occasional bottle. We started solids a few days before 6 months. Its going fine but...I want to switch to BLW.

My reasons:
-wanted to BLW but got talked out of it by friend who said it led to bad sleep. My dd has been sleeping badly since 6 months anyway so I now think I should just BLW like I wanted to.
-I have noticed that with conventional weaning things may go well initially but the step to self feeding is hard, and then you don't have the safety net of them still on milk.
-I don't like how purees mean that we now eat separately.

Altho dd has been eating for almost a month her milk intake is still high, she only eats a few spoonfuls morning and afternoon so I thought I could just switch to letting her feed herself...

Would this work??

Of course it would work Grin

BLW is brilliant Smile

Moving over to BLW now should be just fine, no reason at all why there should be problems. Go for it!

I did BLW with my DC (now 2.9 and almost 15 months), they loved it. As did I.

and anyway, if you had started doing it a few weeks ago she might not actually have picked much up yet, so she's hardly missed out. Wink

Firsttimer7259 · 31/08/2010 21:39

So you dont think I should be worried that she will be 'behind' in working out how to pick things up and get them into her mouth? Shes not particularly dextrous...

Just want to re-confirm before starting this in earnest

Not at all.

Just try her - you'll be surprised at how quickly she picks things up - especially when she realises things taste good!

Puree was invented for when they started weaning babies at 4 months, so I've always thought it odd to start 6 month old babies on it. Go with what you and you DD feel happiest with Smile

You can do it however you want, some meals BLW and some spoon fed. I used to do whatever suited my stress levels / time scales and whatever was in the fridge.

I often did a spoon fed first course then a BLW pudding (or vice versa).

I did a bit of both i.e. gave puree and offered finger foods at the same time. It doesnt have to be one or the other as a mix could work too.

agree, esp under the circumstances. just do what you are happy doing, OP.
