Refusing savouries and does she need milk?

Hi there. I have two qus I guess. Firstly, my lo simply refuses to have any savouries whatsoever! She will only eat yoghurts and fruit purees - and as she won't eat anything else, that is all we end up giving her!! She's 9 months and I'm worried she won't have the nutrition she needs. Have tried mixing savouries with sweet (yuck!) and interspersing savouries spoons with sweets but she is having none of it - any advice?

also, we are hoping to ttc no2 v soon but am still breastfeeding. LO refuses to take the bottle or beaker when it is filled with milk (she takes water and juice in it) - do you think i can reduce feeds and rely on yoghurts, cheeses etc as she eats loads of those (oh - cheese is the only savoury she will eat). Or should I just continue? Trouble is, am worried she will be feeding off me forever, as much as I love it - would like to start ttc soon!

thanks for listening :)

well I'm no expert but I would say the main issue is this: She still needs milk. Thats her main source of nutrition and apparently they need 18-20oz a day up to one year. I know thats hard to calculate when bf!

I wouldnt substitute it just yet with other dairy if she isnt eating properly. Just persevere with the savoury. I know, easy to say. Have you tried sweet vegetables (sweet potato being the most obvious - my DS's both loved it)?

Dont deny her milk. Or reduce feeds too much before she makes a proper transition to food. She's only 9 months old!
(you can concieve, its just not as likely if you're bf - google it - there is advice) You wont be bfing forever, and you'll miss it when its gone.

Sorry if not much help x

Thanks LynnieP. I agree with you that I shouldn't stop breastfeeding her - she is still only young. I did try sweet potato but the young lady has now started to spit out everything if its not yoghurt - she used to take it before! Guess I will just persevere! Thanks for the post!

It doesn't say how you've got on with finger foods - if she likes cheese have you tried little squares of cheese on toast? Or cheesy pasta (I didn't realise this was a finger food until my ds showed me)?

My DS dropped his milk feeds in the space of a couple of weeks, so don't worry that she's still drinking so much now.

My son is much the same (9 months), he loves his puree fruit, youhurts, peach and strawberries but savoury takes more effort. I have found houmus and cream cheese seem to go down well and if new foods have a layer of one or the other on he tries the new food too- I think it may be down to the consistency.
With regard TTC I was pretty keen to get going again after my daughter, I continued to breastfeed day and night up to her 1st birthday and cut the night feeds out once she was one. That did the trick and my son was born when she was 22 months.

i agree that it might be the consistency of the yoghurt and purees that is appealing - my boy struggled with savouries at first but i soon found he'd eat anything if it was mixed with a little plain greek yoghurt and once he got used to the tastes he eats the same foods without the yoghurt. The Total Greek yoghurt is great because it is so thick you only need a tiny bit to give the food you are adding it to texture, so they're not filling up so much on yoghurt but also the food you're trying to disguise!
