Baby eating too much

Hi my blw 13month eats LOADS of certain things (macaroni cheese, bread with philly for eg). I thought they stop eating when they have had enough so was just giving him as much as he wanted, but my mum said he might just be being greedy and he shouldn't get used to having such big portions. Anyone had any experience of this? I don't want to end up with a 10 stone 5 year old who I have to wheel to school...how much is the right amount?

well both those things are highly processed white fatty carbs...

perhaps offer a limited amount (one slice of bread & philly, one tablespoon of macaroni) alongside lots of veg so you know they;re not going hungry but the meals are a bit more balanced, iyswim

Some babies eat more than others. Annabel Karmel said my baby should have been having 2 ice cubes of food, he was having more than 3 times that. He is 9 now and hasn't an ounce of fat on him.

DS1 was a very greedy eater, he would just open his mouth and I would shovel food in and he never seemed satisfied as he would always get upset when the food was all gone,

however he was a very active baby and I think he needed lots of calories, he crawled, cruised and walked very early and since he learnt to walk he ran everywhere.

although he was a very chunky baby, now he is 3.5yrs he eats almost nothing and still runs everywhere so is now a very skinny boy whose trousers fall off him,

so I think you are worrying far too much about his future size.

As for portion sizes I have not done BLW so I have no idea about suggested amounts for this type of weaning.

He is a very active baby but still has v chubby cheeks and legs...not walking yet but nearly, seems much more chunky than his peers who seem scrawny in comparison (I'm sure they aren't though!). he also eats loads of carrots when he can but throws broccoli on the floor. will eat one green bean and some peas ok but not gorging like with the other stuff. HV said that white bread was better than brown, is this not the case? should I use brown pasta?

My son was a very chubby 9 month old and didn't walk until 13 months. Try not to worry too much but do look at what he is having.

quite right, white bread and pasta are better than brown for under 2s so they don't fill up on fibre

just check that white fatty carbs aren't all he gorges on, iyswim - offer lots of fruit and veg and protein (eggs, fish, lentils, meat) too.

On a related note, do you know if there is a limit to how many eggs per week he should have? we have been having omelette for lunch a few times a week but was worrying if you can overdo it with eggs...

there's no limit, but I found more than one a day started to make dd constipated unless balanced by huge amounts of fruit
