Stupid question about making baby food

Hi

My DH is crazy in a nice way and planning a hol for Oct 2011!

Anyhow - my first baby is due end Jan 2011 - so baby will be about 8-9 months old on the hols. I'm planning to make baby food myself, and wondered - woudl we need self catering place - or would hotel room with a mini fridge and a sink be ok?

Dh is driving me nuts looking into hotels/self-catering - so if I could try and point in a certain direction would help him!

THANKS :)

Good lord you guys plan even further ahead than me!

I make 90% of babyfood for 8mo DS BUT when on holiday a couple of weeks ago I took Ella's Kitchen and Plum Baby packets. We don't do full BLW but do use quite a lot of finger food as well and have done since starting to wean at 6mo.

I wouldn't pick your holiday based on what you think now that you'll do with baby food as you'll more than likely change your mind a hundred times over the next year! Seriously, the idea of a holiday is to have a break and for me that includes not having to worry about pureeing etc so I'd go with the hotel (if that's what you prefer - or self-catering if that's more your thing) and figure out at the time what's the least hassle for you on holiday. If you use packets of puree for a week (along with finger food) you will not have any problem going back to home cooked on your return nor will your child's head suddenly fall off because you've served him/her something ready made!

Your DH sounds fab!

We preferred self catering with our first child. Now the kids are older hotels are much nicer but with first child (when you tend to take 100 times too much stuff!)
self catering easier.

Not cos of food but just general mess, baby didn't have to sleep in our bedroom, nicer for a baby sitter when we booked one cos they could sit and watch telly rathr than sit in the dark (had bad experience with hotel baby listening service once so have never really trusted it since), etc etc etc.

Indaba's makes a good point about the stuff and what to do after baby is in bed... We've stayed in a couple of hotels - but small ones where our baby monitor works so don't have to rely on hotel baby listening. I guess I'm just saying don't use the food as THE reason to do anything!!

by the time your baby is 8-9 months old it will be plenty capable of handling finger foods. ou won't need to do any preparation or need a fridge
