How much soya products can a 1 year old baby have?

DD just turned 1 last week and I have started to introduce soya products such as soya mince and soya meatballs. I am a veggie but DD eats fish and chicken, she has never liked it lamb or beef (DP is not very keen on DD becoming a veggie). However she needs to eat the same that it is in my plate so we all eat the same. I am not sure how safe it is for her to eat soya products as I can remember reading something about fertility problems but my memory has got terrible since becoming a mother and now I can remember where I read it Blush.

I guess I am just looking for some reasurance and for some guidance of how much it is safe for her to eat. I have given her only twice a week for lunch time for the last two weeks.

By the way we are doing baby led weaning with her which works perfectly fine and she has always loving it.

Hope this message makes sense as I have a little one year old trying to type at the same time that I am trying to write this which by the way it is very challanging Grin

Thank youvery much for all your help

I think these amounts are fine. Soya formula is not recommended for babies under 6 months old, especially boys, because of the potential fertility issues, if I remember correctly.
However, if you read the allergies board, you'll see that there are many babies and toddlers allergic to cow milk protein who have a lot of soya products. My DS has some fruit soya yoghurt pretty much every day, and often soya milk with his cereal or porridge.

Mine has tofu quite a lot, and vegi sausage made with soya protein. Never heard anything bad about eating it regularly only what duende said about soya formula. we probly have something with soya 3 times a week. He is 13months btw

watch salt though - lots of soya meat-substitutes can be v salty, esp sausages

From what I understand, problems with soya only occur if it's the sole source of nutrition - ie soya formula for babies under 6 months. As part of a mixed diet, it's fine. Like any food though, you would't want to over do it but soya milk etc to drink everyday and tofu etc a few times a week is fine. Soya has been a part of the Japanese and Chinese diet for thousands of years and they are some of the healthiest people in the world. And speaking as a veggie with a vegan husband who eats a lot of soya (as do many people I know) they certainly have no problems being manly! As the previous poster said though a lot of processed soya products are very salty. Plain tofu you season yourself is best.
