Recommend a highchair with this spec?...

Am on the look out for a highchair but have not found one that fits the bill, is there such a thing as a high chair where you have the option of either attaching a tray or pushing it up to the table?

It would also ideally be..
wooden (hate those fat chunky plastic ones)
foldable
comfortable, with seat pads available
Not more than £100

a plain wooden folding one would be fine, but I haven't found one that has the option of using it without the tray (although I like the babydan & the tripptrapp, but you can't have trays with those)
any suggestions?

Many Thanks

I know you said no plastic, but the best highchair I've found is the Ikea Antilop (available in white, red or blue for around £15, with tray £5) which is not big and chunky, and the legs come off to store it away. We have a tripptrapp which we bought first, and an Antilop for travelling, but would say I actually prefer the antilop.

My parents have the EastCoast 3 in 1 highchair, which is wooden (currently £50 on Tesco website). Although it doesn't fold away, it has a removable tray, a cushion pad and comes apart to become a child's chair and desk. Looks nice in the corner of their dining room when we're not there.

Sorry I couldn't help more!

You can actually now get a tray for the Tripp Trapp... they sell them new on ebay. If only new TT's were under £100!!

Ikea Antilop is what you're after (with the exception of it being made of plastic ). It's not a horid big & chunky one though, and looks quite neat & tidy at your table.

Get an Antilop - you absolutely truly will not regret it.

MrsKitty · 04/08/2010 19:39

Antilop (tray comes separately)

Ikea also have this new one in wood, not sure if tray is detachable though - I would assume it is?

thisisyesterday · 04/08/2010 19:54

this one is wooden and has a removable tray

it's kind of ugly, but it turns into a small table and chair too which is quite cool!

thisisyesterday · 04/08/2010 19:54

this one is nicer looking and also has a removable tray

thisisyesterday · 04/08/2010 19:56

this one doesn't say specifically that the tray is removable, but the little knobs on the side suggest it is. am sure kiddicare could confirm if you asked them

Just got the Antilop and LOVE IT...

Rob1n · 05/08/2010 13:28

Thanks for replies. i've seen the Antilop but didn't think it looked very comfortable, handy that it has optional tray though.
thisisyesterday, you are right that is kind of ugly! although i do like the idea of having something which isn't going to be redundant in a year or two, one of the reasons i like the tripptrapp. Like the Babyweavers one too, just that it isn't foldable. looks like i'll be compromising somewhere!

I have to say that I didn't think the antilop looked comfortable when ds was 6 months, but by 7 months he was sitting up very confidently and seemed to like the 'bucketness' of the antilop.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 05/08/2010 13:37

Dc1- got a wooden, folding highchair (can't remember what it was). It was a bugger, not ocmfortable, ds slipped around in it for ages, straps didn't come off for washing and because it folded that meant lots of places for food to hide.

Dc2- dc1 still needed to sit on his as table was high so needed a second chair. By now I had realised that MN was always right and got an antilop. It is the best chair in the world. Comfortable even when just sitting and so easy to clean.

Buy the antilop

Anyway, if you buy the antilop but don't like it you have only wasted a few quid instead of wasting £50 on a wooden one.

MrsJamin · 05/08/2010 19:44

We got a Handysitt, it's such an economical choice as you don't need to get a booster seat when they're older and it's very transportable so you don't need an additional travel high chair. It's very ergonomic too and attractive too - very unobtrusive. It doesn't have a tray though - why would you need one especially?

chegggersplayspop · 05/08/2010 19:48

I have an antilop and a Tripp trapp. Both are great and are plenty comfy enough. It's not like they will be sleeping in them.

tvfriend · 05/08/2010 19:50

Antilop, Antilop, Antilop

duende · 09/08/2010 20:43

another vote for handysitt here, it's lovely!

AngelDog · 10/08/2010 20:40

Another Antilop vote here.

I couldn't cope with a chair which didn't have a removable tray - it would be far too hard to clean. I need a tray as our kitchen table is a bit too high otherwise (and might get stained with things like tomatoes / raspberries / sweet potato.
