I waited until between 5 and 6 months to wean dd2. I was hoping to go down the BLW route.

However, she showed no interest in picking up food and putting it to her mouth at all so I tried her out with a few purees to see if she had any level of hunger for them.

She loved all the sweet veg and fruity stuff so we carried on with this.

The problem is that she absolutely will not eat anything remotely lumpy. Even mashed foods are rejected. It has to be totally pureed.

I know she is perfectly capable of chewing. She will eat bread, toast, Goodies crisps, biscuits and other such rubbish but she will not take anything off a spoon if it has a remotely lumpy texture.

I have tried just giving her vegetables whole instead. Roast parsnips, soft boiled carrots and squashes etc..... but no - she will only eat them if they are pureed.

Where am I going wrong????

Purees are so messy . This is driving me nuts.........

I'd just stick with the BLW approach - no purees from now on. Maybe your DD just wasn't ready when you tried it before? IMO they'll take the volume of 'food' when they're ready....

Have you tried giving whole pasta? Penne or similar? THat was my DS's favourite at that age? I didn't spoon anything into DS - he has done it all himself...

To introduce more lumpy food I added a teaspoon of cooked cous-cous to the puree and then increased as he became more accepting. He then happily took other lumpier purees. I also continued to offer finger foods and by 7 months only wanted 'whole' food and rejected the puree.

As long as she is eating finger foods i wouldn't worry. Lumpy purees are quite a transitional thing so not worth getting stressed about. Include lots of messy play opportunities in her day, eg painting, cornflour, sand etc to let her get used to textures in other ways.
