ok so dd is a milk monster and still really not all that interested in solid food. Well that is not strictly true she asks for it, she puts it in her mouth, she chews it then she spits it out and refuses any more. should I worry, don't want to wean her from breast yet though could do with some reduction in her addiction to feeding but mostly just want reassurance that she will get there eventually.

My ds is 19 months and started eating normally(ish) in the last month. At 15 months he would have eaten fruit yoghurt cheese and rice cakes reliably. I think at that age he may have started eating bread and toast too. He also loves his milk and always has (though I stopped breastfeeding at 8 months)
he is still fussy but it's often possible now to persuade him to give things a go especially if he's hungry

thanks summerlightning, have had a bit of pressure to refuse feeds so she eats more and was beginning to doubt my resolve that some children just take time to get onto solids.

We did restrict the amount of
milk he had and it did make him eat more. At 15 months he was only having milk morning and evening. Probably harder to do when breast feeding though.

hmmm she feeds more like 6-8 times a day plus a couple of night feeds

DS was the same - tried restricting milk feeds and it made no difference. Eventually relaxed about the milk feeds and suddenly at 22 months he eats like a horse - or is it a camel? Either way he eats loads in one go and then nothing for ages and it's very difficult to persuade him to eat if he isn't in the mood to (which seems to have no bearing on how hungry he is )

He still has 4-5 feeds in the day and sometimes feeds at night (don't notice TBH as co-sleeping) but his weight and health has never suffered. Just keep the food available at regular times (perhaps have something like a fruit bowl within reach?) and she will get there in her own time, provided you have no concerns about her weight/overall health.

I was weighing DS every couple of months at that age as he was still in his infant carseat and I wanted to make sure he wasn't too heavy for it, and he was fine - continuing to hover around his centile line. (Good excuse BTW if you want to get her weighed but don't want to invite HVs to get all concerned about the solids/milk balance)

thanks bertie. she is on 90th centile for height and weight so no concerns there. Food is always offered but if she doesnt want it
i dont push it and i dont refuse her feeds at all at the moment so feeling reassured by your post
