Bib recommendations

My 8 month old DS is thoroughly enjoying his messy adventures with solid food. Till now I've been stripping him to his nappy and afterwards carrying his food-covered body to the bath. I have no problems with this, but in another month and a half he'll be spending 3 days a week with a childminder, and I don't think she'd be willing to bath him all the time. So: any recommendations for super-enormous, comfortable, all-covering, wipe-clean bibs? We did get a huge supply of teeny cute bibs when he was born- they just make me laugh now.

Those teeny cute bibs are funny aren't they?

Not wipe clean, but quick clean & dry, my favourites are:

these

Silly Billyz - long sleeves, fleece fronted so things don't drip down, and can go in the tumble drier. And don't stain either

These don't look heavy-duty enough. He has food on his legs, arms, belly every time!

Sorry, I didn't see the long-sleeved ones. Yes, they look good.

I would also recommend a washable sleeved bib. I tried the wipe clean plastic ones with my 9 month DD, but wiping just doesn't seem to clean them and all the food slides off the bib

I highly recommend bibetta bibs they are made of neoprene so almost everything sponges straight off them, they are also really soft and comfortable, especially around the neck which can be a bit scratchy on some bibs.

If they get really mucky you can literally run them under the tap, squeeze out the water, hang them up and they are dry in time for the next meal. We have two of them and they have been pretty much the only bibs we've needed for big messy meals. Dd is now 18 months and has been wearing hers since she was 6 months (although she is a tiddler and they were huge on her to start with).

The site I linked to is the main one, but I believe they sell them all over the place these day, Tescos have them, as does Kiddicare.

I'd reccomend sillybillyz too, but not the ones linked to, the Messy Eater is much better. It has a long front and sleeves, covers everything. Allegedly it's for 18-36 months but I've used them for BLW from 6 months with both my DC. They wash and dry really quickly and last forever. DD's are still hanging on afyer more than two years of use.

Here. I'm not in the UK so not sure where's best to buy them (none at bump to 3), just linked here because they had good photos!

I was going to go for the bibetta bibs but MNers persuaded me to go with the Messy Eater instead. I'm glad I did, legs seem to be a major filth zone for the first 6 months to a year of BLW and the bibettas don't offer any coverage there.

MrsBadger · 28/07/2010 14:04

silybillyz

no contest

silverfrog · 28/07/2010 14:08

another vote for bibetta.

dd1 was a really messy eater (poor motor control) and she wore these until she was about 4.6

they are fab - and you can tumble dry them too, for real laziness

I've just passed on ours to my SIL - they all look as good as new, despite a good 4 years wear out of some of them!

moosemama · 28/07/2010 14:35

Ah, you see the bibettas did/do cover my dd all the way down to her feet, but as I said, she's a tiddler (just going into 9-12 month clothes now at 18 months) so if you have a bigger baby that might not be the case - although they do do a bigger size for older children.

As silverfrog said, mine still look as new as the day we bought them, despite daily use.

ReadingTeaLeaves · 28/07/2010 16:44

Asda have some coverall type ones for 3 quid each which I'm using whenever we have to leave quickly after a meal (so no time for a hosedown). They're orange and green with dots on. Get them in the aisle where you find other weaning type stuff.

Fine for a 6mo, so should be fine for your LO and go in the washing machine.

The Bibetta bib has a catch pocket that folds round from the back. We've been BLW and it catches most food, he very quickly learnt as well that if he lifts the bib up he can tip the contents into his mouth

JenniC · 01/08/2010 22:03

We use long-sleeved bibs and then a Bibetta on top. Found that the plastic sleeves just got in the way though so now have ones that are fabric sleeves and either plastic or fabric fronts.

Thanks people. My Messy Eaters have just been delivered. Will put them to use this afternoon.
