When did you child first drink from a sippy cup?

Just wondering, as am clueless really. My dd is 5 1/2 months, she's been having pureed fresh veg or fruit once a day and a fromage frais yoghurt, and so far she has devoured everything with gusto. She still has 4 8oz bottles per day.
I noticed yesterday that her poo was solid rather than runny, more like adult poo and was a bit concerned she might be having trouble passing it. I thought I'd give her some water with her dinner to cleanse her palate and quench her thirst and loosen her poo (sorry!).
I put cool boiled water in her bottle and she drank a bit, then I tried her with a cup with a spout and she drank quite well from it. What age do babies usually use a sippy cup? It is not going to make her go off drinking from a bottle, is it????

I started DD on a sippy cup as soon as I started giving her purees, which was about 5 1/2 months. It hasnt put her off her off her milk out of a bottle of milk but so far she refuses water out of a bottle and milk out of a sippy cup!

her milk out of a bottle of milk....? Must preview!

I think this is one of the things where they're all different, my DS will have water from a bottle but not from a cup, have been trying him with the sippy cup and he just can't seem to work it out (got a tommee tippee no spill one) even tried taking th e valve out so it just pour into his mouth easily but he just grinned and let up pour out!! Have started adding a handle attachment to his bottle though and only do that with water in the hope that he'll realise the distinction at some piont!!

Anyway friends dd is fab with a sippy cupo and has been since months but won't ever take milk from a cup.....

As soon as we started weaning at 4 1/2 months. She didn't like using at first but soon got the hang of it.

same as Amazingbouncingferret (cool name!). She won't take water out of bottle either, but will take it happily out of a tommee teepee sippy cup - the old fashion one's with no stoppers or valves just 2 holes with a flip up spout. It says 4+ on the packaging if I remember. She did cough and splutter a bit to start with but now I can't get it out of her vice like grip when I try to feed her!

DS started with sippy cup at 6 months and took to it straight away and loves it now (half of the time blows it all out again but drinks the rest!). On the other hand DD wasn't that fussed about water and wouldn't really drink it at all until about 10 months - got all her liquid from milk and her food - still hardly drinks now, except the last few weeks with the hot weather.

4 1/2 months, she took to it straight away. We tried it as she was not liking her bottles too much. She's only had EBM from it though.

I didn't introduce a sippy cup until after 18 months. Thought it was better to keep the milk intake up via the bottle until then and not risk confusion. Was prob too cautious but prob depends on child.

My 6 month old DS is fully breastfed - we have just started introducing a little fruit and veg puree (twice a day). Should I be giving him water too? I remember reading that breastfed babies don't need water but surely they will do eventually - anyone know when?

He seems to be pooing just fine...

I gave DS a sippy cup at 6 months when I started weaning but he didn't drink anything much until around a year when he started using an open cup.
He still had lots of formula up to a year though so got most of his liquid from there I think.
OP, it sounds as though your DD is having a decent amount of formula so I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep offering a cup of water with meals and if she's thirsty, she'll drink it.
