Weaning equipment

Preparing to start weaning my baby and just wondering if anyone can advise me on what stuff to get. Spoons, dishes, freezer paraphernalia etc. I like the look of some of the things in Annabel Karmel's book but can't seem to find them in the shops. I know I only really need a soft spoon to start with but eventually I'd like to be able to batch cook and freeze.

Anyon used those BrotherMax clip pots?

Also, is a hand-blender just as good as a food processor? I don't expect pureeing is a stage that will last more than a month or so so don't really want to fork out on expensive gear.

I bought a 'wean machine' which is like a giant garlic press for fruit & veggies - low tech alternative to the food processor. DS thinks it's a toy. I have used a hand blender and think it's perfect. Boots spoons are great. I use the Avent cups with lids - they are great, they fit into the Avent warmer.

The breville weaning set is very good. You get a hand blender for very smooth purees and a attatchment for slightly chunkier ones. A spatula, a spoon, 4 little pots and a book of recipe ideas. Was half price in boots but that was a few weeks ago.

The larger attatchment is excellent for fruity slushy cocktails...

A cup for water, if you haven't started yet. We use a doidy cup, although a sippy cup would also be fine if your LO is willing (mine wasn't).

I would suggest a clean shower curtain for under the high chair, particularly when you do BLW/finger foods.

I started and kept to the following items:

electric hand blender
Washable sleeved bibs
plastic bowl
sippy cup
plastic weaning spoons
plastic pots with lids for storing in fridge and freezer
highchair and protective mat to keep the floor clean

long-sleeved bibs

microwave

good sharp knife

plastic mat for floor

that is all

I bought a wean maching, avent puree/milk warmer, fisherprice on-the-go-puree warmer, pack of weaning spoons, little weaning pots in a tray for the freezer and extra ice cube trays. And I spent many evenings pureeing and freezing fruit and veg in preparation.

Then my son absolutely refused point blank to take any puree, or indeed anything from a spoon. Eventually I gave up and did BLW. Unfortunately, I now have a 'cupboard of shame' as my husband calls it, with most things still in its original boxes awaiting ebay.

Buy nothing except a plastic mat/shower curtain for the floor and a long sleeved bib - it's definitely worth waiting to see how it goes and only buying things when you are certain you will use them (no matter how useful they appear!).
