Safe feeders

Are they any good? I didn't use them with dd, didn't know they existed, but I am thinking of using them with ds when we start solids. I have seen they are ridiculously expensive (almost 10 quid!), at least the one I saw in Amazon. Also i guess they are difficult to clean properly. Are there different brands? Any recommendations?

What is a safe feeder? Do you have a link.

Surely if your child is ready for weaning then they don't need fancy and expensive kit. You need an easily cleaned high chair, a good bib, a bowl and a couple of baby spoons. (Unless you want to be completely baby led.)

lukewarmcupoftea · 20/07/2010 14:34

I wouldn't bother unless you find your ds is unusually sensitive to lumps. If you managed without for your dd then do you really need it?! I know how tempting it is to be drawn into getting nice new kit (I almost bought a special little baby food steamer/blender) - but you really don't need it. Just trying to save you a tenner!

I think they are a bit pointless so wouldnt waste my money (just my opinion!)

I think you're right, not sure how useful it will be and I did manage very well without it for dd!

is it one of those bags you put fruit in so they can suck on it. i mean really just think about it. would you enjoy sucking a mesh bag with an apples in it?

how old's your baby? you can just give them normal food from 6 months, solid. no need for a beg.

cereza · 20/07/2010 19:18

he's still 5 months ruddy, and now that I think about it, no, i don't think I would like that myself

We got one as a gift -- we tried it out but it seemed silly.

Erm. No way. Definitely, no way. A friend of mine bought one (to which I made no comment of course...) and within 2 uses it was REVOLTING and dishwashing etc didn't help, and it was in the bin. End of.

I thought so... they look a nightmare to clean properly.

What the buggery feck is that for? I entered into weaning hoping to encourage dd into the lovely, sociable, enjoyable ritual of picking up food, chewing it and swallowing. I did not want her to start thinking the washing machine table sac was some kind of substitute dummy.

Seriously, at 6 months ish when they're ready for solids, plate of food and stand well back.

cereza · 23/07/2010 13:17

I plan to do the usual purees/mashed food to start with and then finger food, I just heard about these things and thought they had some added value, obviously not!

Going against the grain here, but we have 3, DD loves them for soft ripe fruit eg nectarine or melon that she gets frustrated with when it slips out of her hand. I think it is partly the independence of it, she likes to hold it herself and suck the pulp through - there is rarely much left in them at the end!
Got them in ASDA for 4 quid, and I don't find them difficult to clean - sticking a bottle brush in them inside out IYSWIM and wiping the left over bits off works!
Controversial it seems, but I like them!

cereza · 10/08/2010 18:58

thanks alisha! so they work for someone!!Smile

I was given one as a gift when DS was born and am giving it to a friend who's struggling with introducing lumps/finger food to her 7 month old - we're planning on BLW from 6 months so won't be bothering with it.
