Sandwich fillings for 6.5 month old - thoughts on houmus please!

Hi all - 6.5 month old very keen on finger feeding, and have discovered he loves houmus sandwiches. Didn't think about the salt content until he was already tucking in.

Organic houmus but has added salt. How much salt is too much for this age? Any other ideas for sandwich fillings.

Have tried to make my own houmus previously and it was disgusting!!

salt guidance here
tbh the bread is probably worse

try philadelphia, mashed avocado, mashed banana, tuna (in water) mashed with a little plaijn yog/fromage frais, even plain unsalted butter
where do you stand on peanut butter?

You can make your own houmus (lots of recipes online) and it's really, really easy.

If it's homemade you can make it without salt altogether.

As you were.

All my friends seem to give their babies humous, they seem to like it. My DD (7 months) does. Am just looking at a pot of tesco organic humous and quarter of a pot (50g) contains 0.7g salt. Baby would probably eat only another quarter of that at at the very most (mine eats very small amounts) so that would be 0.35g salt. Daily guideline intake is 1g for a baby 7-12 months. Therefore if they don't eat much salt in their other meals should be OK?

I think shop-bought is pretty salty. Remember that just because you (with your salt-accustomed tastebuds) think home-made hummous is horrid, doesn't mean your baby will. He'l probably love it.

Oh, also, hummous has a lot of sesame in it (from the tahini), which is a common allergen, so if that's a concern, then you should probably avoid it for the time being.
