Can I just give him a piece of it, or does it have to be pureed into mush?

He is used to eating whole bits of food, he has chunks of food and purees/roughly mashed food too. Does not have problems with gumming food til its mush and likes to push it around his mouth with his tongue (while grinning most of the time!)

I am roasting some thighs to make risotto, so would be nice to give him some of it.

If it needs to be whizzed, how do I do it, I am going to give him some rice and peas too, so he can eat the same as us - has had rice before, I just good his a bit longer til it mushes slightly.

I just used to sort of shred it off the bone

DD2 refused to be spoon fed from about that age ao she used to pick bits up herself

I wouldn't fancy pureeing chicken !

I've always just given pieces and both DC coped fine. pull apart a thigh and pop it in front of him. Easy.

Mine have just chewed on a nice bit lump of meat at that age. They didn't really swallow it as such, just chewed and sucked all the juices out of it.

Pavlov · 14/07/2010 16:41

oh good I am glad you said that is how to do it.

I vaguely recall pureeing it for DD and it was not pleasant so just gave it to her. But can't remember how old she as when we gave her it in bits.

He will be dining with us tonight then, minus the chicken stock!

easily yes DD did this with pork, we used to give her a chunk of loin and she loved it. But I remember chicken being a bit stringier, guess I am worried about choking on it, but he is really good and chomping!

it's fine! I did it with all meat and fish. Well, everything actually.

I'm sure she'll love it!

Pavlov · 14/07/2010 19:40

he loved it, chewed on it, used his tongue to move it around (i love watching him do that [sad emoticon].

asolutely. My 9 months old now tries everything we eat chooped and placed on the high chair tray provided that it's soft and no sking. She had mackerel yesterday

Umm, I made a chicken casserole and pureed it for ds when he was 6 months. I had to be physically dragged away from the pot as pureed chicken was so yummy! But now I just basically mash everything up. Also we have given him a piece of cooked chicken breast to hold and he loved it.
