Hello all, my little girl was breast fed until 6 months and then preferred a bottle so switched her to bottle. She started weaning at around 16/17 weeks, just at lunch time for quite a while but now at 7 months she loves her food, there is nothing she doesnt like so far, and trys everything. IM worried she is having too much, she will refuse it though so do i just let her have it if she wants? Everyday she surprises me by doing something she has refused, she wouldnt take any liquids other than milk for ages, and her poo was rock solid and difficult for her to pass, she had water yesterday from a bottle which amazed me.......i do put a few drops of juice in it sometimes just to make it a bit more interesting, and while its been so hot i have made her ice lollys with juice and water to ensure she is getting her fluids which she wolfs down. But how much should she be eating. I go through stages of worrying, HV says she is a good weight and once she is fully moving her chubiness will fall off her, she is just over 7 months and 22lbs.

She typically has the following daily.

btwn 5am-7am 7oz Milk
7am-8am 2/3 ice cubes of Froaty, (homemade fruity porridge which she loves!) and sometimes a petit Felous, depends on what time she had her milk sometimes has this around 10am instead.

btwn 11.30-12.30pm 3/4 ice cubes - consisting of homemade dinner such as shep pie, chicken, fish pie etc and veg. Another youghurt or dessert spoon of custard, or homemade rice pud ( neither made with sugar!)
and 2 ice cubes of fruit.

between 2-3pm 5-7oz Milk.

btwn 4pm -5pm tea which consists of 2/3 ice cubes of homemade dinner, as above or spag bog, ratouille, risotto. and fruit with custard or rice pud and if she is hugry sometimes a youghurt as well.

then around 7ish a 7-oz bottle and bed.

She sometimes has a bit of fruit or homemade porridge bread inbetween as a fringer food but really just plays with it rather than actually eats a lot of it.

What do you think?

any views appreciated

Hi Wishing

My DS is also 7 months, but we are doing BLW, so he is eating a lot less than your DD. The thing is, they don't necessarily need a lot of solid food at this stage, their diet should still be mainly milk, and the point of the solids at the moment is to introduce them to new textures and tastes, rather than relying on it as a source of nutrition.
My DS is breastfed, and hasn't dropped any feeds as yet, so is still having about 6 in the day and once at night (although obviously I can't tell how much actual milk that is).

Do you think she is still hungry? Because if she is, I would be tempted to up the milk rather than the solids at this stage, they really do need their milk. If she isn't hungry, then there doesn't seem to be any problem really, you have to allow her to regulate her own appetite, we are all different, some people have enormous appetites and some people eat like sparrows, IMO it can just create unnecessary battles to try and persuade children to eat more than they are happy with just because the parent doesn't consider it enough (obviously unless there is weight loss involved).

It's also good if she is playing with the food, food is the ultimate toy for this age, they learn so so much from it. My DS's pincer grip is coming on a treat and he enjoys mealtimes so much, it's the only time he doesn't get bored and can sit there for hours exploring!

Anyway, hope that has helped
