Disney with an uncommon food allergy? Pea protein

Hi all

Have been to Orlando many times before but taking my 2 year old son for the first time in November.
He is allergic to pea protein, so not a top 12 allergen and doesn’t therefore have to be listed on menus etc.
Does anyone have any experience of Disney/ Universal with a food allergy that isn’t a top 12 one?
Thanks in advance!

I don't but the unique nature of it suggests its best to contact WDW Guest Services directly for info.

Thank you @XVGN yes will be doing that for definite, it seems they don’t want you to contact regarding allergies more than 2 weeks before you travel, but conscious dining reservations need to be made a bit more in advance!

I have severe food allergies and never felt safer at Disney World - with the caveat that I’d totally avoid the Epcot World Showcase restaurants as they’re not owned by Disney so don’t have to follow the same standards, and most of the wait staff don’t speak perfect English because they’re from that area’s country. Disney Springs restaurants also aren’t Disney-owned. A woman died of a food allergy at Disney Springs a couple of years ago. The Disney-owned ones take any allergy very seriously though. You might need to ask to speak to the chef as the app doesn’t show everything, but they’re very good and will keep your DS safe!

Hi OP, I have no info for you, but would just like to say hello as I'm allergic to pea protein, too, and always get funny looks when I mention it, as if it's not a thing.

❤️ Hope you have an amazing time away 🙂

@LivingOnTheVeg thank you for the reply! That’s so so helpful and has reassured me a bit. He does also have a peanut allergy (fortunately not anaphylactic) but because that’s such a common one I’m almost less worried about that one. It sounds like it’s one of the safest places to be with an allergy!

@KingfisherAmmonite ah thank you,♥️if I’m honest it’s not something I’d heard of before having my son, and at first we only noticed from actually eating peas, but as time has gone on we can definitely confirm it’s anything containing peas/ pea flour/ pea protein. I feel for you because we find it so hard! People do give us a double take when I say it, as if it’s not a real allergy because it’s not a big one like dairy or gluten. Allergy life is not straightforward!

Hi OP, I have family members with various allergies including one with pea protein. I don’t remember exactly the situation with quick service resturants, but with the sit down table service ones, the chef always comes out to speak to her to tell her what she can/can’t have, and often they will make something bespoke for her off the menu. Honestly, they are incredible with allergies, just make sure to make them aware at each restaurant and you can add it as a note when you make the reservations. You’ll be in great hands!
