Must dos for 6 yr old girl

Hi MNs
We have just booked two weeks in Orlando. We are a family of four, with a 12-year-old, who has planned each day to suit his interests and a six-year-old, who will have very little idea of what's going on initially. Could anyone recommend the absolute must rides/experiences for a six year old girl at Disney/Epcot/Universal/Animal Kingdom et cetera? I am a planner and I would love to have a list of those things to prioritise before we go.
Thanks so much

  • Favourite Disney films
  • Ride tolerance
  • Wait tolerance
  • Staying onsite/offsite?

Good point! Thank you!
Rapunzel/moana/brave/encanto are favourite Disney films
Enjoys a rollercoaster as long as it doesn't go upside down
Good at waiting in queues

If you are able to go a little outside of Disney The Crayola Experience is really good and more chilled than Disney so we did that on a chill day. We have just done Disney for two days (with the Crayola Experience in the middle of them) and had no plans. We really enjoyed it and just went with whichever was the shortest queue. She will probably like the Disney Junior section in Hollywood Studios. My five year old loved the dance party.

We are in a villa offsite but which has shuttlebus to universal and Disney

We went to Paris when DD2 was about that age. She liked wearing her snow white dress and meeting snow white.

Only upside-downer (single loop) at WDW is Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Go on everything else! But my brother was a little freaked at Guardians of the Galaxy. And avoid Mission Space (Red?) - it uses centrifugal forces to mimic rocket take off. Can make people feel very sick for many hours after. Green doesn't.

My favourites (for youngsters) would include Turtle Talk with Crush (Epcot) really cute and interactive based on who is there. Mike's Laugh Show (Magic Kingdom) - picks up people on the cameras and makes gentle fun of them.

Epcot has Journey with Water (Moana themed) and (I think) a new Encanto show.

We always do the Hoop-De-Doo dinner show. Plain simple entertainment.

You might like 50's Prime Time Cafe (Hollywood Studios). Adults get told off for elbows on the tables and not washing their hands. Food not great - but that is true of most Disney food. We eat at our villa and buy little in Disney.

Don't get demoralised, but apparently the thing that youngsters enjoy most at WDW is the pool. It can be hard to take when all that money has been spent.

A good strategy is to hit the parks early, go back to your villa for lunch, swimming, relaxation and then go back out in the evening. The whole experience is intense and you need to be careful to go easy.

As far as books/guides go, I'd recommend the Unofficial Guide series.

What time of year are you going?

Look at booking Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, my girls loved it at that age!

Daneinuk22 · 02/08/2024 17:32

placemarking as I’ve recently booked to go next may and my DD will be 6 then.

I’m also a planner so like you, OP, I’ll be going with an itinerary.

I’m planning to do a few early mornings with the afternoon at the pool then back at the park in the evening, and a few lazy mornings where we chill by the pool then go to the parks in the afternoon.

Age 6? Bippity Bobbity Boutique. Gets booked VERY quickly and it's expensive, but it's unbelievably good for a princess loving little one. Our DD loved it.
