Disney Florida in August

Eve1356 · 15/05/2024 15:01

heading to Disney Florida in August with the fam. I know it’ll be verryy hot and humid so we’re preparing ourselves for it! Read quite a few negative experiences due to the weather at this time of year but wondering if there anyone out there who has gone at this Time of year and had a great time still!?
it was the only time that we could go but I’m feeling disheartened reading threads (mainly Reddit) about how the heat and humidity ruined peoples trips and hope that’s not the case for everyone : /
I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance…
thank you

We always go at that time of year and yes it is hot but we always have a great time, we tend to go out early in the morning and then go swimming or nap in the afternoon and then back out in the evening.

YouStupidPoptart · 15/05/2024 15:09

DF lived in Florida for almost 2 decades. The humidity is honestly a killer. Not a chance would we ever have done the parks then.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 15/05/2024 15:15

@Eve1356 our boys are grown up now but we did take them in August, it was killer hot, make sure everyone keeps hydrated. As @misty64 said we used to go early and then when it got very hot pop back to the hotel for a rest and a swim and return to the parks in the evening. We all used to have a bumbag with a poncho in it too because the rain is biblical! You’ll have a great time.

PickleJelly · 15/05/2024 15:15

We are going at the same time - although end of Aug/early sept. We have done it at this time several times. Yes it is hot, yes it is humid but as long as you are prepared, it is honestly fine. As PP said, go out early, then nap/swim, then back to the parks/out for dinner.
You will get loads of people on here telling you that they wouldn't dare go at that time of year, but millions of people have done and continue to, so don't listen to the negative comments, just take notes of the tips!
You will honestly have such an amazing time.

DappledOliveGroves · 15/05/2024 15:17

We've done August before and it was fantastic. Yes, it was hot and humid, there was the occasional downpour, but we had such a good time.

We have twice. Yes it was hot but still amazing, we didn’t even break the day up. DD was fine, we all were. The shops are air conditioned and some of the ride queues are too. I do find people over dramatic about it. You’ll be fine. Have an amazing time

Mindymomo · 15/05/2024 20:06

My family always go in August, they go to theme parks every day and the photos they’ve shown me are great. Yes, they get torrential rain late afternoon most days, but it doesn’t stop them booking every couple of years. We’ve been 3 times in April, weather is very similar.

gingerperil · 15/05/2024 20:14

We went for the first time last August and was hot but amazing. Friends recently went over spring break and queues were awful which we didn’t experience.. Also meant water parks were amazing as so refreshing. Just pack lots of cotton/ breathable clothes and enjoy! We also didn’t get any torrential rain which I was kind of looking forward to experiencing as warm rain is nicer than the rain here!

gingerperil · 15/05/2024 20:19

Ps I am a redhead (username is a clue) and don’t normally fair well in heat so if I can do it.. sure you can

anyonesellinganark · 15/05/2024 20:50

We've been a couple of times in August. It's fine, of course it's hot and humid but totally manageable. There is quite a lot of shade especially in animal kingdom and most queues have shady parts and some have air-con.
Lots of rides indoors in many of the parks. There were also splash pad type areas in some parks and 2 water parks to go to. If you have t already booked go as late as you can in August as all the American kids are back to school then

mommyduties · 16/05/2024 03:03

Don't worry too much - it sounds like from the responses that as long as you go prepared for the heat and humidity, you can still have an amazing time at Disney in August! We went a few years back at that time and yes it was sweaty work out in the parks, but we had the same strategy of early mornings and pool/nap breaks in the afternoons. The fireworks at Magic Kingdom were especially awesome in the humid nights too. You'll be fine as long as you listen to the tips folks have shared about staying hydrated, taking breaks, and dressing for the weather. Don't let the horror stories psyche you out - hope you all have a magical trip!

Thank you so much everyone for your replies!! Feeling excited once again! Really appreciate your insight and advice

I have a home in south Florida and I head north for June - October, which tells you what I think of summer in Florida😂

That said, it's not as dramatic as some people make it out to be. My advice: dress appropriately! Spandex and tight polyester is just going to be constantly damp and sticking to you. Loose cotton or linen sundresses are amazing. Pull your hair up, find a cute hat, wear sunglasses. Drink lots of water.

You'll be in and out of AC constantly which really helps. I know "August" sounds scary, but the humidity is pretty much the same from late May thru September. You might get more rain in August, but it's not that much hotter than if you were there right now...which I am. (Gulf coast, not Orlando)

Have fun!

SoYoung · 20/05/2024 13:48

I'm here right now and it feels hotter than the surface of the sun. Queuing in magic Kingdom at 8pm the other night and felt like I couldn't breathe. It's not just the heat, the humidity is something else. It's unbelievable. I couldn't be here at the height of summer, I couldn't cope. Not to mention the children.

Curlybrunette · 01/07/2024 10:59

We fly next week and I also keep reading about the horrors of the heat/humidity in July and August.

I'm going with the idea of lots of water, sun cream, hats and figuring it's a first world problem. If the worse thing that is happening to me is that I'm a bit hot and uncomfy then I'll take it!

Though saying that we've only got 5 days in Orlando and then on a cruise so I'm hoping it will feel better on the ship with a sea breeze

Eve1356 · 15/07/2024 14:19

@Curlybrunette have a fab time!! My friends just returned and said it was hot but they still had the most amazing time and they’re going again next July!
let me know how it is and if you have any tips

HI @Eve1356,

We're back! It was great, it was really hot but we prepared for it. We had those neck fan thingies and cooling towels, constantly drank water and walked in the shade when we could when out and about.

Just a brilliant time :-) there was one day that I got totally hot and bothered but we'd gone out to play crazy golf, right across the middle of the day. Once I got back to the hotel and cooled off and got in the pool I was right as rain again. Think I just timed it badly.

I hope you have the best holiday

Nowmum43 · 06/08/2024 09:08

We have been twice in August and go again next year. We have to go during the school holidays so don't have much option.
Yes is as hot as being on the sun wrapped in tinfoil but it is also manageable.
We stay on site so do a park In The morning, back to the hotel in the afternoon and then a park in the evening.
Drink plenty of water, this is easy as everywhere gives free iced water.
But most of all have the most amazing time and get ready if the most expensive holiday addiction once you are back! Our once in a life time has turned into our 3rd time booked Grin
