We go at the end of the month 😃 really struggling to locate holiday clothes at the moment.

applebee33 · 04/03/2024 18:32

Oh how exciting ! I was panicking about holiday clothes but I've decided I'm bringing just a weeks worth of clothes for us all and will buy some new bits once there if needed ! There is no comfortable shorts out in the shops whatsoever

We fly out on 27th - first ever trip!

@Aworldofmyown I bought a shed load of Disney t-shirts for the family in Primark! Plus their Disney ears are soooo much cheaper than buying them in resort!

Is it really? I have no idea how much to budget for food etc.

CaveMum · 11/04/2024 12:11

It is very expensive! We worked out we spent about £3,000 on food and souvenirs over the 11 days, though about £400 of that was money the kids had saved from birthdays/Christmas to spend.

We mostly ate at Quick Service places, but even then the meals were averaging about $50-$60 a time. Portions are big though so we regularly only ate 2 meals a day or just snacked.

We did have a few table service meals that pushed the cost up - DD is classified as an adult at 10 (🙄) so we had to pay adult prices for her, despite her eating less than her 7yo brother! The most expensive TS meal was lunch at Space 220 which cost about £200 plus tip.

My main tips:

Rope Drop! You will be awake early for the first few days so take advantage of it! To make it to rope drop you need to be arriving at the parks an hour before early entry starts (assuming you are staying on site). For us this meant catching a bus at 6.05am for Magic Kingdom, 6.14am for Animal Kingdom and the Skyliner at 7am for Epcot/Hollywood Studios.

Each park runs rope drop differently (which is a bit annoying!).

Magic Kingdom let’s everyone in just after 7am then filters the Early Entry guests and holds them at a literal rope until 7.30am before walking them to the rides.

Animal Kingdom is similar, though it’s a longer walk to get to Pandora (where everyone is heading that early on!). They do start walking people onto the rides before 7.30 though.

Epcot similarly hold everyone on the bridge by France (if you’ve come in via the Skyliner, I can’t comment on what they do for guests at the main gate) and then walk you on to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, but you’re usually already boarding the ride as the official opening time starts.

Hollywood Studios is a bit of a free for all! Once you are through the gates (which they open about 15 mins before actual early entry starts) you can go straight to your first ride - everyone either goes to Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash. We were walking into Rise at 8.20am when the park didn’t actually open until 8.30am!

***

We rope dropped on 9 of our 11 days as we are early risers anyway. We did Fireworks at MK and Epcot once each (having had an afternoon rest back at the hotel) and we also did the Fantasmic show at HS which was amazing.

If you are less bothered about the Fireworks, this is a good time to get on rides as the lines often get shorter while they are on.

My tips for getting the Virtual Queue for Tron/Guardians:

Have your party confirmed in the app by 6.55am

Disconnect from the Disney WiFi and use mobile data

At 6.58 open the virtual queue and get ready.

At 6.59 start hitting that Refresh button like you life depends on it!

As soon as the Join Queue button appears, hit it!

This method never failed us (Tron x 3 and Guardians x 4). The principal is the same for the 1pm queue. Bottom line is if you wait until 7am on your phone clock you will be too late as the slots go in seconds!

My final tip - play around with the My Disney Experience app now. Get familiar with it so that you can navigate it easily once you are there.

Another tip I thought of:

when you go through security at the gates, take anything that might set the metal detectors off out of your bag and hold it in your hands with your arms stretched out in front of you as you pass through the gates - portable battery chargers, aerosol cans (suncream/bug spray), glasses cases and umbrellas are notorious culprits.

We're here now - Disney dining plan has saved us about £2k we think.
