Can you recommend me an open world RPG

I used to game a lot, I’ve done all the Elder scrolls and fallouts, RDR etc. I also loved The Last of Us (my absolute fave!) but I haven’t gamed for a few years. I enjoy the roaming and exploring, the scenery and the immersion. I don’t hugely enjoy the fighting but as long as easy mode is actually easy them I’m okay l - but I don’t want anything that’s centred around fighting.

I have a few weeks off work after a really shitty year and feel like losing myself in a game for a while but no idea where to start! I have a PS5 and and Xbox series S but would prefer the PS.

Happy Christmas!

  • The Witcher (Highly recommend, seriously! Play it)
  • Cyberpunk
  • Kingdom Come deliverance 1/2 (I think only 2 is available on PS5) it’s all stick based! Graphics are great
  • Elden ring (PLAY IT PLAY IT PLAY IT)
  • Balders gate (unsure if it’s classed as open world)
  • Bloodlines - controversial, many people don’t consider it RPG.
  • Oblivion

If you search in the store on PS5 it will show you everything available, you can set filters for RPG

Forgot to add, it’s always good to look on Steam or Twitch and see what other people are playing, then if something peaks your interest or looks like your kind of thing you can try it yourself. This is what I do as sometimes I buy a game thinking I’ll enjoy it but it sucks and I’ve wasted £50.

I’ve played the Witcher and Oblivion but was literally just looking at Kingdom Come, I think that might be right up my street!

I’m an on/off gamer so I don’t have a lot of experience but Hogwarts Legacy is good.

Have you played any of the assassins creed games? They are open world with lots to do!

Vallhalla in particular is a good one.

Horizon Zero Dawn has an amazing story, the combat is fun and you can turn it to story mode to make it really easy. Big massive open world to explore. It has a sequel that is also great in Horizon Forbidden West.

God of War (2018) and it's followup God of War Ragnarok are semi open worlds and two of the best games I've ever played.

Assassin's Creed has some great open world titles. In order of recommendation - Odyssey / Valhalla / Shadows / Origins / Mirage

It's a much smaller game but also very very good and a very unique experience - Tchia. It's an indy title where you explore an island nation and doesn't have any traditional combat.

I love the games you’ve played, and also loved the Mass Effect series (never been so emotionally invested in a character as Shepard) Dragon Age (don’t play most recent, it’s crap compared to Inquisition, but 1 & 2 are also great) and Horizon games.

Breath of the wild

Breath of the wild

That's not available on the consoles the OP owns

Some amazing suggestions here, thank you all! I’ve played Horizon Zero Dawn, Hogwarts Legacy and some of the Mass Effect games but I haven’t played any of the Assassin‘s Creed so will have a look at those, for some reason I assumed they were combat based!

Not if you don't like combat it's not, there's plenty of combat and even on the easier difficulty it's a solid game. Really challenging, you can't just wildly hack and slash, you have to actually learn the combat mechanics.

Have you considered some non-combat open world exploration games instead? Sable is open world exploration and puzzles with no combat at all, Eastshade where you play as a travelling painter exploring the land, Firewatch which is hugely story driven and has a lovely world to explore, Disco Elysium is probably one of the best zero combat RPGs, all investigation and dialogue driven.

Or some low combat or easy combat games: Kingdoms of Amalur is a pretty game with very easy combat and a huge and quite magical explorable world, the Outer Wilds is planet exploration with a really interesting time loop mechanic, Subnautica is underwater exploration in a gorgeous setting with minimal combat if you want to play it that way, No Man's Sky another space explorer with some very easy combat.

This is my bread and butter as these are the games I adore so I'll happily recommend until my fingers turn blue!

I’m definitely not interested in learning “combat mechanics” #buttonbasher 🤣

No Mans Sky is one I’d looked at years ago and forgotten about, I’ll have a look at that and the other suggestions too, thank you ❤️. I just want it to be pretty, immersive and not too hard.
