If DD likes Hogwarts Legacy ...

.... What else might she like?

Nintendo Switch.

In the past she has enjoyed the Pokemon colours games.
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wind was too hard.
She can't do lots of things together with her fingers.
She likes quest, fantasy games but needs good signposting as to where to go next.
Single player games.
Some puzzles but not too hard.
Not aliens.
Maybe greek mythology, she likes that.
Also loves animals in general.

She likes the look of the Batman Arkham trilogy, not sure why, but it's an 18, and she is in my opinion not going to be robust enough. (She is 20 but v.v. young for her age, more like early teen in lots of ways, struggles with MH & anxiety I think something too graphic would give her nightmares.)

She might like the new Lego Horizon Adventures game, I'm a gamer and I love the original game but I think the lego version is perfect for players who want things a bit less intense (especially if they like a bit of fantasy). If she likes a more 'Sim' style game, then Stardew Valley or My Time at Portia are good options, these games revolve around crafting, farming, forming relationships with the townsfolk etc. and each quest has a clear goal but you have the choice of which quests you attempt first.
A bit of a side line, but my DDs and Nieces have enjoyed 'Unboxing'. They literally have to unboxed some moving boxes in a house and decide where to put everything, there is a sort of story that it moves through (e.g., from childhood bedroom all the way to adults moving in together). It's not a traditional game, but it was a bit of a surprise hit last year and very calming.

The Lego Harry Potter game is really good. Logic puzzles and quests. Different enough from Hogwarts Legacy. We've bought Lego Jurassic World today so will see how that goes.

Maybe one of the harvest moon games, based around farming but has a quest element.

I used to love harvest moon on the PlayStation (I am that old it wasn’t numbered 😂)
The untitled goose game was a big hit here a couple of Christmas’s ago, you get to be a goose (mildly) terrorising a town and have quests to complete.

I enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch after buying it last year, and I was also looking for something to fill the gap when I finished it. Some suggestions:

  • Palia. This has pretty much no peril/stress compared to Hogwarts Legacy so might be a bit 'young' for your DD, though I'm older than her and enjoy it! It's an online game and technically a multiplayer game (as in there are lots of other people playing characters, but to be honest I basically just ignore them all and play by myself, which hasn't been an issue so far). It's the kind of game where you go around talking to the in game characters and completing quests for them. You also build up relationships with the characters and there's a big building/crafting/fishing element too. It's a free game so nothing lost if she doesn't enjoy it.
  • Skyrim. This gave me the same fantasy fix as Hogwarts Legacy and in my opinion has a very Hogwarts Legacy feel. Elves, dragons, magic, that sort of thing. It has a massive map and loads of quests to complete but you could spend so much time just wandering around the map and doing your own thing. I will say it is scarier than Hogwarts Legacy but if you set it to easy mode you become quite powerful quite quickly, so after you've played it a while it isn't too bad. The only downside for me is that there are some combat scenes where you have to fight skeletons in dungeons that stressed me out a bit (I also don't like scary games) and you can't progress the story without completing these. There are some puzzles involved in some of the quests but I wouldn't say they're a massive part of the game, but they do feature from time to time. To be honest the start of the game almost put me off as the first half hour or so is a tutorial that basically trains you in the combat and has you escaping from prison after witnessing a beheading (it's a fairly old game so not that realistic/gory, especially on the Switch) but honestly the vibe changes quite a bit once you can do your own thing. Sometimes I just wander around gathering flowers and herbs and making potions, and helping the characters out with easy quests.
  • Spiritfarer. A bit different from the two other games I've recommended as they're both open world games and this one isn't. Your job in this game is to help 'spirits' move on after death. It sounds scary but it's not at all - it's all rather cutesy and the spirits come in the form of various animals. You have to complete various quests for each of them to help them move on from this world. The game involves some platforming and building/gathering. Very low stress and comfy but doesn't have the 'do what you want' aspect that Hogwarts Legacy and the other two games above have.

Maybe check some of these out on YouTube and see if they fit :)

Brilliant. Thank you all so much (other suggestions still welcome), I will show them to DD to see what she thinks.

How long did she stick with Breath of the Wild?
It's a fantastic game but the first couple of hours of gameplay are tricky, once you're off the Great Plateau it's an open world game and you can go off exploring and do the game at your own pace in any order.

I'm rubbish at combat and love the puzzles so I would go in a different direction to any monsters and head for the shrines where the puzzles are or grab a horse and go looking for the villages which have puzzles and no baddies.

Over time the controls feel more natural and you get better weapons so it's easy to slay a few monsters on the way past and grab their weapons which are usually better than the basic ones.

I’m currently playing avatar. It’s harder than Hogwarts but the world exploration etc is lovely.
