I was working on the weekend so didn't go on the hunt. There was a group organised in my city who I think successfully did a couple of battles, but as you say, very large numbers needed. A few from my PoGo WhatsApp group managed to do them with 20+ trainers. But these were all arranged off the game using other apps (WhatsApp/Discord etc). The chances of 20+ trainers all being in the same place just by chance seems minuscule!

I went along to a huge central London meet-up at Kings Cross on the Sunday. There were about 400 of us. I partied up with another random single woman (you don't have to do that, you can just mooch along on your own but I had some Party related challenges to do) and I did 4 raids, caught all three gigantamax and went home. Took about an hour, and it was a lovely inclusive vibe. It's got to be the most diverse group of people you could ever hope to meet in every way: apart from not having any very old people.

It's really expensive in Mega particles though, and it is properly tough. We failed one raid in a group of 40, and only managed another one by the skin of our teeth. But I think they'll get easier as people power up and learn how to dodge better. I failed dismally soloing with dynamax Beldum until I googled and worked out how to use the dodges.

teafor1 · 30/10/2024 17:01

40 people! 😵‍💫 I had no idea you’d need that many. I’ve just got dodging - will be helpful. Thanks for the friend requests!

lljkk · 31/10/2024 20:11

Gmax: Community Ambassador events in the small city where I live (population < 150k), had at least 60 people last weekend, both days. About 50 signed up for tomorrow and usually more are there than the total who checked in, so we should do alright with Gengar GMax.

Is anyone here in the Dorset area? I’m visiting there in a few weeks time. Hoping someone can suggest a good area for Pokémon for someone with limited mobility.
Also up for trading with anyone in and around…

BlessedBeTheFruitShoots · 01/11/2024 18:11

Hello! I've just sent a friend request to those I'm not already friends with- Willizard2015.
The Gigantamax raids sound impossible Shock so will keep reading on here for tips!

Malamar · 17/11/2024 09:21

Morning all
I’ve added a couple of people who left their codes on here. Mine is 008367990103 if anyone is looking for friends.

I’ve come to the realisation that I don’t really know what I’m doing. I walk a lot (over 50k most weeks) and have adventure sync on but only really play while out a couple of times a week as I don’t like walking around on my phone. So I mostly kind of spin pokestops as I walk and then stop at a couple of places that I know have lots of Pokemon and catch them. Try to put stuff in gyms to get coins every day. Do battle league battles but I don’t particularly enjoy it. I have lots of pokestops nearby so send gifts daily.

I keep my highest cp Pokemon to evolve/power up but not sure if this is the right way as I don’t have any that can go particularly high (3200 ish). My partner plays less than I do and is a lower level but he has Pokemon that can go over 4000. Is this just luck? I tried keeping 3* ones instead of just highest cp but they’re still relatively weak. Also if we’re out together and use an incense he gets much better Pokemon spawning than I do which feels unfair as I put the miles in 😆

I’ve never done a raid.

I don’t understand what to use charged tm etc for at all, how do you know what’s a good attack for each Pokemon?

Reddit has been helpful for some things but most of the time I don’t even understand what people are talking about!

If anyone can help with any of this I’d be very grateful

Google is your friend here "pokemon go (name of thing) best moveset" will show you what the best moves are for each beast. "Pokemon Go (thingname) best counters" will show you what you need to be using when raiding. There are lots of ways to play and no single right way. I can't abide battle league but my friend loves it because you can do it from the settee. I sweep up everything I see but my son is only bothered about catching his favourites.

There are plenty of new player guides out there, you can skip through the bits that you already know or are not bothered about. Personally I only power up the amazing beasts of wonder (three star) and the rest are sent back to the Professor's health farm. I'm too old to have been exposed to Pokemon in my childhood, for me it's a walking app because it gets me out of the house when I can't really be bothered.

What is it that you really want to do? Level up faster? Raid? Complete the 'dex? Shiny hunt? You don't have to do it all.

lljkk · 17/11/2024 20:22

You can waste a lot of chargeTMs trying to get moves that aren't possible.

I use Pokemongo hub to find best movesets. They star the ones that can't be achieved with regular Tms.

Youtube is your friend to show you how to do Raids... and most of these things.

You'll make mistakes along the way. We all do. Just keep trying.
Some of the best Mon are in raids... try it !
You can probably solo tier 1 (1 star ones) easily.

teafor1 · 18/11/2024 06:55

The great thing of it is that you can play however way you enjoy. I love raids and have grown to like Team Rocket. I don’t like battles. My husband loves the battles and does it in the evenings.

Is anyone on campfire and does it work well? I guess ultimately it depends how many play in your area if you need it. I’m missing the group that used to exist around me a couple of years ago but seem to have stopped playing. Ive joined a couple of remote raids with campfire but I think I’m picking unpopular times to try and host. It was taking forever to accumulate enough people and I gave up. Remote raid passes are expensive so I want to host instead.

Knotaknitter · 18/11/2024 10:24

I'm on the road to level 49 and it's making me play elements in the game that I've never bothered with up to now. I need thirty nine platinum badges and fifty lucky trades so I'm doing serious numbers of trades for the first time. I've only ever done a handful of trades but now I need the lucky trades and the badge it's suddenly a priority. I see that for the next level I need to be level ten in the battle league and maybe it will turn out that I like that too. Mmm, I doubt it.

@Malamar I am OhVienna, this game means nothing to me....

I agree with this. Me, I am a 'dex complete and really only battle for hearts with my buddy.

With Pokémon attacks, it's mostly about types. For example, you wouldn't put a fire type against a water type because the water type will kick its backside. But if you put a grass type against a water type, you'll do the backside kicking. It does have a sort of logic to it!

If anyone is doing a dialga or palkia raid I have remote passes at the mo, so please invite me along (thecrazyonesmum).

I started off just walking a round catching things, but have got into raids and go battle as time has gone on. I quite like that to get to level 50 you have to do a bit of everything. I need more local people to trade with, so will struggle with 50 lucky trades, but most of the other challenges are doable, even if some will be tricky!

Malamar · 19/11/2024 14:32

Thank you everyone.

I started playing years ago when it first came out but gave up quickly because it seemed like all there were were magikarps and I filled my Pokemon storage with them thinking I needed to keep them all to be able to evolve it (not sure if I even knew transferring was an option tbh). Didn’t know you could get more storage without spending real money, didn’t know about gyms etc. I think I filled my pokemon storage and item bag and was then stuck 😂. Started again earlier this year because my children like Pokemon. I’ve noticed there are far more pokestops around and I hardly ever see a magikarp now.

I like the battle league for stardust and rainbow candies but find the battles pretty tedious.

I’d like to complete the Pokédex but I only want to do it on my existing walks. I can’t see myself chasing around town because there’s one I haven’t got yet showing somewhere. I’d also quite like to build a good team of fairly powerful ones but I’m not sure why as I don’t like battles 😆

Malamar · 19/11/2024 14:39

@Knotaknitter I can’t stop singing Vienna now, thanks for the earworm!

Campfire takes way too long to find a group and it only seems to group people from your area. I use the ‘go raid party’ app. Other similar apps are available.

gillybean2 · 20/11/2024 04:00

@Malamar if you like to walk without looking at your phone and have plenty of stops on your route then a go plus+ might be an option. They are pricey but it lets you spin stops and catch Pokemon without looking at your phone. There are cheaper unofficial options available too (gotcha) but niantic states you can be banned for using unofficial accessories.

As others have said, high cp Pokémon aren’t generally the ones to keep. You need to be looking at their stats and working on powering up your 3. 4 are 100% so if you have any if those try to max them out. You tend to get better stats if you hatch or raid for the Pokemon. Good luck

teafor1 · 20/11/2024 06:43

@gillybean2 i am finding it takes a while to find a group. Timing is everything. I hosted for the first time yesterday and it was quick enough in the evening with the new raid bosses available but it’s slow most of the time. Aren’t other third party apps not allowed? I’ll have a look at the one you recommend. I was noticing the proximity to me aspect.

btw I got a shiny Dialga yesterday. I’m very pleased!

teafor1 · 20/11/2024 07:05

@gillybean2 i tried ‘go road party’ and it was very quick! Thanks

AlmostLegendary · 23/11/2024 10:42

I'm liking go raid party, finally got a palkia!.Need to work out how to host now so I can do it without burning through remote passes quite so quickly!

teafor1 · 26/11/2024 06:55

I’m disappointed that the ‘at a raid’ friendship status was only temporary. I really liked it! Hopefully they bring it back soon.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/11/2024 13:09

It went so fast I didn't quite notice it. And I was curious but didn't have the time to investigate exactly.

Tarkan · 26/11/2024 13:22

I liked it too. I have a random friend abroad and I nearly randomly joined a raid they're in, just didn't get a raid pass in time but I liked that I didn't need an invite if I was wanting to raid.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/11/2024 15:40

How did it work exactly?

OP posts:
teafor1 · 26/11/2024 16:20

It would show in your friend list if anyone was waiting in a lobby waiting for a raid and you could click on their name and join the raid with a remote raid pass. It was really easy. Expensive! But easy.
