Switch vs switch lite

Madwife123 · 26/10/2021 15:34

We already have a normal switch that my son got for Xmas last year. My daughter has now asked for one. I’ve been looking at the switch lite as I don’t think we need 2 docking stations.

Is there any benefit to 2 normal switch’s vs a switch and switch lite? Can they play together etc.

Switch lite can't be connected to the TV and is a hand held only device so she might feel short changed by getting the lite.

I have the switch that connects to the TV. DS is an only so tbh we hardly use it on the TV.

I quite like the lite and tbh I think DS would of been totally fine with it.

I find the Lite not very comfortable, and obviously it could be seen as "second best".

It seems silly to have 2 docking stations to 1 TV (they don’t have TV’s in bedrooms) but I do worry she will feel like hers is not as good as her older brothers if she gets the lite.

Is the TV connection the only difference? Anything else?

I'd go back in time and give the switch as a family present.

But as that's not quite possible...get her a full switch.

The other difference is that they can both pay on "theirs" when plugged into the TV, pick there's up and go. The fixed controllers mean you might need a separate set of controllers for some games. It also has a smaller battery (about 25% less battery life) and no motion control options.

If you are going to get one buy it now though, and I mean this week. A new version with a slightly upgraded screen has come out which means that the normal version is now only £249, vs £309 for the OLED version, but that is only until stocks run out of the £249 version. It means it is only £50 more than the Lite.

Full switch for a few reasons

  1. so she doesn't feel hard done by compared to bro
  2. she can take her switch wherever
  3. they should last them both a fair few years, and when they're older you may allow TVs in their rooms.

Will they play together do you think?

If they will play games together on the TV it is handy having the joy cons. I agree about the docking stations though.

Hwory · 26/10/2021 16:27

Proper switch 100%.

DGFB · 26/10/2021 16:32

Agree, proper switch

I had the switch lite and recently got the OLED. Definitely get the normal switch, I didn't realise I was missing out on anything until I upgraded. The Lite screen is tiny compared to the normal switch and there's no rumble on the lite (doesn't vibrate during gameplay)

There's some games that can't be played on the switch lite

In addition to playing it on the TV there's also a tabletop mode which can't be done with the switch lite but I think most people tend to use the tabletop nose anyway so not really a big selling point.

In Japan they sold a switch that had everything except the dock and was marketed to households that already had a switch with the intention to use the same dock. Seems a good idea but annoyingly they don't sell it outside of Japan.

Nookable · 26/10/2021 17:07

Mistyped above, meant to say most people don't use the tabletop mode

Madwife123 · 26/10/2021 19:44

Thank you. Decision made we will get the proper switch.
