Hello,

My daughter will be 3 soon and I was wondering if I should let her play on a phone/tablet. I am still researching on the topic and it would be great if you could recommend some studies about this.

Also, what games/apps would you recommend?

Thanks.

MN will have a horror fit at the idea - but if you're going that route... the Cbeebies apps are a good starting place.

For young children, they should be exposed to games that are manipulative and fun. Some games have lots of screen operations and colors that kids will love like slitherio.online However, you should not let children play too much, only limit them for a certain amount of time.

I like this site: www.happyclicks.net/
Really simple games to introduce skills such as clicking, swiping or mouse control (on laptop/PC) My DS has played them very occasionally from around 3years old. I would also second the CBeebies site and the CBeebies create app too.

Cbeebies apps are really good ,safe and free. Remember you can and should set up controls over devices to stop children spending too long on a particular app or straying into dangerous territory. Easy to do on Apple products.

I have a recommendation, if you have some budget, buy an Osmo bundle on eBay second hand. It spans the online and physical worlds brilliantly, is very intuitive, fun and educational. It's wonderful and will serve several years (the games second hand are quite reasonable too, and make excellent gifts when you are stuck for something new). Plus you feel less guilty ... it is truly virtuous screen time.

My child (2,5) has learnt the alphabet and his numbers from my phone.

Just send the worst parent award my way.

Second thought: don't provide access to YouTube kids or lots and lots and lots of apps. If there is too much stuff available, it gets very addictive. So maybe just stick to one or two apps for now.

My dd loved Toca Builder but was probably about 4 when she started it.

The hey duggee apps have always been popular in this house.

DC1 learnt left and right when I taught them to use the remote control during lockdown 1.

I win!

Ahhh now that is impressive @NakedAttraction

My DD (3.5) has learnt loads from blippy on youtube (basic physics terms like floating and sinking). I'm sure it's from there as she goes to a Welsh medium playgroup so wouldn't have got the English words from there.

Also, I like the numberblocks songs, they are more tuneful than many kids songs. My DD, who has a speech sound disorder, sings along and her words are much clearer when she is singing.

Thanks everyone, I am going to check Cbeebies app and website, Youtube kids it's a bit overwhelming ... I don't think I am ready for it :)

@RainingZen Thanks for recommending Osmo it's absolutly amazing! I have a Fire tablet and I've found Little Genius starter kit on sale on Amazon. I've played the games and I am very impressed, I look forward to show them to my daughter. She will be wowed!
