Dd 8 loves no craft, she’s been very happy playing it in peaceful and creative mode. Her best friend has now got into it too and they desperately want to play it together.
They are saying there is a way they can do this without anyone else being able to join their worlds or talk to them.
Is this true and if it is how would I set it up?

What does she play on?

You can cross play with the windows 10 edition, the ipad and the Nintendo switch.

You need to set up a Microsoft account and set the permissions.

There are 2 ways I know of. I think it might depend on what platform they play on.

The first is direct connect which I think only works if they are on the same LAN (same WiFi basically). This works on the PC version and I think the mobile (iPad/phone/tablet) version too. I don’t know if if works for XBox and the like or if you both have to be on the same platform (type of device)

The second is by purchasing a Minecraft Realm. I think it’s around £7/month, maybe less. I know this works for Xbox but I suspect it’s multi-platform.

There is a third way which involves setting up your own server, but more techy.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along soon...

You can play windows 10 and mobile/ipad while both on wifi in the same house (ie. on the same network/lan).

When one person launches a world the other person should also see it and enter that same world.

Daughter and I play this a lot together. She loves her Dad playing this with her Smile

To play together over the internet (ie. different households) and create a world you need to subscribe to minecraft realms. Havent looked into this much as it involves money lol

You don't need to pay. Minecraft allows you to create world's that you can pay with friends. And the friends don't need to me on the same wifi or Lan.

My sons play with their school friends. They need to friends on minecraft though. Once you set this up they can play together for free.

JellyBellies · 24/05/2020 12:38

Once they are friends they can set up a minecraft world and only friends will be able to join.

My kids use facetime to talk to their friends while they are playing together.

Bigoldwimp · 24/05/2020 12:41

@jellybellies is this on an iPad or pc ?

JellyBellies · 24/05/2020 12:43

So one son on the PC. My other son is on an ipad. The third friend who play with them is on a Nintendo switch.

JellyBellies · 24/05/2020 12:45

They are all friends on minecraft so can join each others worlds

PinotAndPlaydough · 24/05/2020 15:11

She’s on a amazon fire tablet. I have suggested they FaceTime and play together for now. I am the least techy person on the planet, maybe when lockdown finishes they can play using the same WiFi connection.

On the fire tablet she will be using the minecraft pocket edition which is the same as the ipad.

So, in theory, she can play.

My kids do this with their friends on different WiFi without realms. I found out how to do it on a the EA d on here.
They need to know each other’s gamer tags and you need to open up the permissions in their google/Microsoft etc account.

I think they then start a world, pause, add friend or invite friend? And enter their gamer tag.

I couldn’t actually get it working but my 11 year old did 😫
