Hi

I have zero interest or knowledge in gaming but my 4 yr old son wants to get into it. He loves Spider-Man and marvel. Has anyone got any ideas what we should go for?

Surely gaming isn’t appropriate for such a young child? I would be very wary, especially of games that have player interaction over the internet.

The Lego Avengers game and Lego Star Wars games are fun.

Nintendo is much more children friendly than other gaming consoles. However, I dont know how much a 4 year old would get out of it. I certainly wouldn't buy an expensive nintendo switch console for such a young child.

But maybe a hand held nintendo 2ds? They will be cheaper now and have a vast range of games.

Honestly I think it' may be a couple of years yet before they will be of much use to him. I dont think 4 year olds have enough focus tbh...

2DS is a very good suggestion Bunnymumy, I go with that too. Lots of sensibly priced 2nd hand games for them available.

Anything larger isn't likely to be usable, he won't be able to manage the controllers due to sheer size of them. Even an old Wii.

My 6 yo DS used my old Nintendo DS before getting a Switch. Played some old Mario games and got used to the physical controls.

I do think age 4 is a bit too young to be able to get a lot out of the Switch. I'd also worry about it getting dropped/damaged in handheld mode.

For now I'd keep him on tablet games. Lego do a lot of free game apps, definitely a few Marvel ones, definitely a Batman racer. Also, the CBeebies apps are very good for that age. Playtime Island has a load of games really suitable for under 6s, there are others too.
