Games you can sink a few hundred hours into?

I'm on the shielding list so I'm not able to go out for a long time yet, and it's my birthday next month (a big one). My family want to get me some games so I have something to stay busy with over the next few months. I'm not sure what to ask for though, and I want games that will last a long time as I can't afford to buy any more.

What titles have people been able to play for a very long time without getting bored of them?

I was given Animal Crossing as an early present and I'm really enjoying it so far. I have a switch and a PS4.

Games I really loved/spent a lot of time on:

Skyrim, Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, Prison Architect, Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Diablo 3, Pokemon lets go/pokemon sword, harvest moon, luigi's mansion, ratchet and clank, spyro trilogy, minecraft.

Are there any games like the above that I can play for 100+ hours that you'd recommend?

I slogged through until I completed White Orchard. I really enjoyed it after that. Spent a lot of time randomly exploring on my horse and dying a lot.

I might go for a third try at some point, but it was hard to get that far with a 1 year old (so no playing during the day) and a partner who gets bored more easily than me. Probably makes it ideal for someone wanting to lose themselves for a couple of hundred hours, though!

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Awesome game

Faithtrusts · 16/05/2020 01:17

Totally recommend the Witcher 3. I also am a big fan of assassins creed origins, I have Odyssey but I can't leave origins half done - though Valhalla is on the horizon so need to sort it.

I'm so close to buying a switch just for animal crossing !

Turn the difficulty right down for the hard bits.

The far cry series I really enjoyed, there's a story line missions etc but it's also open world with loads of little hidden objectives etc to find

EmotionalFlood · 24/05/2020 22:57

Has anyone suggested Horizon Zero Dawn? A fabulous game, I'm hoping they release a second one! Also wanting to play the new assassins creed when it's released!

Bunnymumy · 27/05/2020 19:29

I've started assassins creed Odessey lately and was going to suggest it. So far so good! Playing as a woman character is a novelty we dont get very often too :)

I love red dead redemption 2 though. Probably my all time faves after over 20 years of gaming. Beautiful scenery and great fun. Story was spectacular too. And the horses are beautiful.

I've been playing breath of the wild in switch but...honestly I prefer the older majors mask and ocarina of time. Breath of the wild feels a but empty to me. Not that it's a bad game of course you could certainly lose a few hours in it.

Fire emblem 3 houses is good on switch too. I love games where you can ultimately marry another character lol.

Grim Dawn, it's Diablo-esque, just ensure you get the two expansions too. Also World of Warcraft but more likely to be thousands of hours invested, not hundreds!

Tetris Blush
I can't stop playing (switch)
Also if you've done BOTW already, Zelda: Link's Awakening
Or Crypt of the Necrodancer/Cadence of Hyrule
Or Sayonara Wildhearts

7ofNine · 31/05/2020 01:09

But I loved Assassin's Creed No ?3 (the piratey one)

Watchdogs 1 and 2, the storylines involve computer hacking the environment as part of the main mission and the side jobs. It's amusing listening in on NPCs phone conversations/texts, stealing money, messing with traffic lights, gas mains, bollards, vehicles, viewing webcams and CCTV, etc, etc. There are plenty of hacks that involve solving puzzles to gain access into a buildings/companies network. The second game is more 'fun' than the first, you get a drone and a 'jumper' (remote control wheeled vehicle) to access hard/out of reach areas.

Far cry games, loved Far Cry 5, great storyline involving a doomsday cult, led by charismatic nutjob Father Joseph Seed, along with his family, very different and interesting. Gorgeous Montana scenery, loads of collectibles, side quests, interesting characters, (especially the Seed family) wild animals, and a brilliant soundtrack. You also get Boomer the dog to help out if you want!

Far Cry New Dawn, follow on to FC5.

GTA V.

Mafia 3.

Death Stranding's very strange, and using a baby (BB in the game) as a 'tool' is weird yet fascinating. (I've not played it but DD has and I sometimes watched, she loves Norman Reedus so I think this was the main motivation for buying the game)Grin

Days Gone, (Biker fights massive Zombie hordes). Watched DD play this, I'd panic too much Grin

RDR 1 and 2, Arthur Morgans witticisms to his camp mates, storyline, horses and scenery, say no more!

All are open world with main mission and loads of side quests, so loads of hours to spend....

Personally I prefer more realistic games than fantasy, but sometimes you do stumble across something you wouldn't have otherwise tried. I use Youtube to check out the titles to see if it's my thing before buying.Smile

Sayonara Wildhearts

Fab game.

scissy · 28/06/2020 00:38

Late to the recommendations but:
Zelda BOTW - you can easily rock up many hours if you try to find all the shrines/do side quests before completing the main quest
Civ 6 - time sink
Cities skylines - killed the sim city franchise as it was so much better.

latheritup · 28/06/2020 00:39

Redecor!

FenellaVelour · 30/06/2020 14:56

Dragon Age, for sure. Amazing games.
Mass Effect from the same developer.
Assassins Creed Odyssey was great, but not quite in the same league as the Dragon Age series for me.

If you like Spryo you'll also like Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy. It's a similar length and style.

Witcher 3 offers so many hours of quests similar gameplay to a few on your list. There are also a couple of expansions.

If you like sim games you can get the sims 4 on console now and if you struggle with the controller you can plug a cheap usb keyboard and mouse into the console and use that instead.

Elite Dangerous is available for £7.99 from the PS Store until tomorrow. I'm building my first PC for 17 years specifically to play it. Amazing game, the DOS version is still fun.
