Please can anyone recommend a good vegan sausage, with autumn now I love a bangers and mash meal, I've gone off quorn ones. Was looking at the "this isnt' (?) Range in sainsbury they had a caramelised onion one I thought maybe nice. Thanks in advance

A different kind of sausage but This salami is delicious! I tried their chicken slices too as there were some in the yellow sticker section. They were ok, wouldn't buy again.

I love the Richman veggie sausages, delicious and great texture!

redboxer321 · 26/09/2026 11:59

This = the brand THIS Isn't Meat Plant-Based...

The salami is good for people who like pork-based products but respect pigs too.

I didn't like the ham. Had a smoked flavour. The sausages are ok.
DCat didn't suffer any ill effects.Smile

Agree with you about Richmond vegan ham. I bought some as I was feeling skint and they were cheaper than La Vie wafter thin ham. Regretted my decision I'm sorry to say. I really like La Vie stuff now and again.

I’m not veggie or vegan but love the Beyond Burgers. Their sausages might be worth a try.

HexInductionHour · 26/09/2026 12:23

I’ve bought some Aldi No Pork ones (I ❤️ the sausage rolls out of all the frozen cook yourself ones) I haven’t tried them yet though.

I was secretly pleased that DCat stole them. She's a menace for stealing food. Cheese is her favourite. (I'm a vegetarian not vegan).

The Tesco own-brand plant-based range is good.
I live Quorn sausages and Cauldron but I don't know if they're vegan. I don't like the Linda McCartney sausages.

menopausequeen · 26/09/2026 12:59

Richmond are good

HughManity · 26/09/2026 13:38

The own-brand ones are called Plant Chef. Wicked is good too.
I've seen the THIS ones now - I looked up vegan sausages.

What I don't like about Richmond is that they do meat sausages too., It wasn't Richmond that time but I once bought meat and veg sausages by mistake. It was carelessness on my behalf but someone might get them in a vegan buffet or something.

I was at some event and someone told me the picnic eggs (mini scotch eggs) were vegetarian. They were not.

thestudio · 26/09/2026 13:51

THIS ISN'T are definitely the best.

But if you want proper school dinners nostalgia - Richmond all the way. You can almost taste the sawdust and other unmentionables Wink

@HughManity i had the spicy bean burgers this week from Tesco Plant Chef. very nice and held their shape and didnt fall apart. The chilled ones not the frozen ones, they didn’t have breadcrumbs on the outside.

@HexInductionHour , I find the range consistently good. I don't have a freezer so can only speak for the chiller ones.
Even the sausage rolls are ok and most vegan sausage rolls are not ok at all. I'm not keen on pastry but the little feline companion helps with that.Smile

HexInductionHour · 26/09/2026 14:24

@HughManity they had a nice nut and seed roast with a red wine gravy sachet (frozen) last Christmas, hope they do that again. For chilled and ready to eat sausage rolls I like the Pukka ones.

The aldi no pork ones are tasty.. we tend to have sausage sandwiches for Saturday brunch and they are definitely our go to.
Also like the aldi meat free kiev's no different to the the m&s ones imo

HughManity · 26/09/2026 17:23

The roasts are good, @HexInductionHour . They are good as a centrepiece so the meal doesn't seem like there's something missing. A decent nut roast is a find.

I'm not normally a packaged plant-based meat replacement fan but I will snap those up if they're yellow stickered. I never bother with vegan mince or facon.

I eat lots of pulses normally - dried green or brown lentils or mung beans, tinned black/butter/cannelini beans etc.

Me too. I wish I could find a way to reduce my fibre intake though!

HughManity · 26/09/2026 18:54

When I say lots, I mean I eat some often not lots every day. I only eat fake meat every now and then.
Thinking of it, I do eat pulses almost every day - peanut butter, houmous, etc.

I've got mung bean and spinach curry for tea with greens and a poppadom.
I've also got plenty of toilet paper in!

It's delicious and I love beans in general and need them for protein but I'm definitely not one of the many people who don't get enough fibre!

Wonderknicks · 26/09/2026 19:21

Richmond if what you are after is a proper banger substitute. DD loves them as a sausage sandwich.
