Best vegan holiday destinations

We are just thinking of planning a post-summer holiday. We used to do adventurous holidays where we either went hungry and fell out or spent more than half of each day trying to source vegan food. We are both so tired of that!

We had fab recent trips to Greece and Germany where we could actually holiday without worrying about food! The locals knew about veganism and provided for it. We had similar success in Italy but it was a lot of carbs and salad! My husband doesn’t want to go to Germany so soon again and we are taking a small child so would rather a short flight or travel by train(Eurostar).

Have you had any easy vegan holidays? Bonus points for vegan hotels!

Not France.

Morocco was good but not a short flight.
Barcelona easy. Spain generally slightly tricky.

Paris was great, Tuscany lovely and easy, Antigua was also great!

We are off to Greece this summer and would love any recommendations of meals/ food that tends to be vegan

Barcelona was great for vegan food. We’ve just been to Venice which was trickier but managed fine and all the food we had was great. Do you use the happy cow app? I find it invaluable when abroad.

Yes, we live and die by HappyCow! We did quite well in Venice, though found it a bit repetitive. I’m glad to hear the positive experiences of Barcelona. Husband wants to go there and I was there years ago and the food was very limited. Good to know things have changed!

Ah, yes we also had a good time in Paris! Not surprising for a big city, but surprising for France where I was once instructed to scrape the dairy dressing off salad leaves with a napkin. This was when veggie but lactose intolerant.

We ate extremely well in Greece. Locals seem to know about veganism as a health choice. Also discovered that the Violife cheese brand is Greek in origin! There are also lots of naturally vegan dishes like fava, smoked aubergine salad, keftedes, dolma. We ate so well and found lots of vegan menus!

We are going to Greece soon and one of the party is vegan. We’ve been before and she basically lives off the same things as you did. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Have you seen the program Romesh did about Ethiopia? He talks about how easy it is to be vegan there.

I haven’t seen it, but it does not surprise me. We love our local Ethiopian restaurant.

We also find place that do proper Christian fasting (Coptic and Orthodox) quite easy as you can explain you are fasting but no fish 🤣

Late response but Switzerland was great (we were in the German speaking cities only if I remember rightly).

Netherlands was good very vegan friendly

arachne123 · 05/06/2026 08:14

I found the Netherlands good - we ate nice food in Efteling, Rotterdam and the Hague no problems, including vegan-only restaurants in the cities. Slovenia was reasonable too.

I'm vegan and currently visiting Krakow in Poland. It is amazing for vegans! There is a vegan hotel called Plantonia, a number of plant-based bakeries with spectacular pastries, several vegan restaurants and cafes, and most of the places have more than 2 vegan options anyway. Also, fully vegan ice cream shop! Cuisine from all over the world. Breakfasts in cafes are more imaginative than the options in the UK, so I'm embracing it and will be returning home a stone heavier :)

Thank you so much for sharing this! I would never have thought of Krakow! I’ll definitely add that to the list.
