Soft cheese - do they taste different?

I've recently had to cut out diary, fancied making a cheesecake so bought Asda Plant Based Soft Cheese. It just tastes & smells a bit weird and I'm not sure I like it.
Do they all taste the same or are some nicer than others?

I haven’t ever attempted baking with vegan cream cheese. Usually vegan cheesecake would call for a nut base.

I have tried the plain Violife cream cheese. It’s fine. Worked quite well in a sauce though it is super processed and very salty.

Boursin and Violife both do good herby soft cheeses. Again, full of crap but I like the taste for a Christmas cheese board for example

Maybe try using silken tofu for a cheesecake instead of soft cheese?

look for recipes I think there are many.

As for the order other part of your question- all vegan cheeses are not created equal!!

I’ve never had an Asda cheese but can’t imagine it’s great. Smaller, vegan owned business tend to make better artisan cheeses and likely soft cheese.

For a widely available cheddar type cheese, Cathedral City plant based is my go to.

Cathedral City plant based is my go to
I got some slices which I had for lunch today in a toasty and it was actually nice!
I think I'll just buy the GF/vegan GU puddings, it's easier and if they are reduced probably cheaper as well
If I can't make cheesecake I'm not bothered about soft cheese, but I think I'll give the Boursan a go at christmas, I missed the cheese board this year 😭
