I've been vegetarian since childhood and vegan the last 7 years ,I'm in my 50s .
I'm so tired
Especially since I gave up caffeine
I've had bloods done and all that was flagged up was low vitamin d
But that doesn't make you tired ,I don't think
Could sleep for a week

I'd be glad of any recommendations for a high strength multi vitamin with everything a vegan needs please

You need to take them separately to make sure you get enough and the right things.

Definitely not COVID
Weight loss intentional on monjroro
Not on hrt because I'm on the progestogen only pill

The POP isn't HRT and if you aren't replacing oestrogen this will also likely affect your energy

Desperateanddisgusted · 04/10/2025 08:07

Low vit D makes you extreamly tired I'm on life long high dose vit d medication as my body doesnt hold it and if I miss a single tablet I l know it with the exhaustion the next day.

Ahhh - yes losing weight will do it too. Are you tracking protein? I was undereating protein by a lot when I started on Mounjaro because my calorie intake went down significantly and I didn't make any effort to increase protein. You may even be protein deficient. After years of insisting you can get plenty of protein as a vegan without effort I've realised that's just not true, especially if you're controlling calories.

Hi! B vitamins were recommended for me when I was plant based. HRT makes a massive difference to my energy levels. I also take Vit D3 with K2.

Theoturkeyflieseast · 04/10/2025 21:05

Oh gosh that's a lot of new comments and plenty for me to think about .
Thankyou everyone..
I just thought for a second,I'd forgotten to add I was vegan ,and that would be a huge drip feed ...but I'm on a vegan thread ..so you will know that .
Tired and loosing the plot

Wait a sec! You are on WLI? Lack of nutrients x 10! What are you eating in a day? Do you eat your beans, tofu, quinoa? If you don't nourish your body, no wonder you are feeling crap.

Try to eat the VEG part of VEGan. On a VEGan diet, it is fairly easy to stay slim. If you were very overweight after 7 years vegan, you were probably eating wrong, and you looking at pills to solve it all will solve nothing. Don't wish for a pill for proteins. Open your fridge to find them. Plant proteins have far more benefits for your health, energy and looks than any powder will have. Fibre, polyphenols, phytocompounds... Have a few nuts and seeds as well.

Whenever you are preparing a meal that comes from a plant instead of industrial plant, think about nourishment. It takes the guessing away. Chop up your veggies, put in a pot for a soup or a baking tray.

Nutritional yeast is high in B vitamins and very high in proteins. You can make vegan parmesan with nutritional yeast and cashews.

Supplements are not a substitute for a good diet. They can supplement part of it.

https://www.myprotein.com/p/sports-nutrition/clear-vegan-protein/12360400/?variation=13220987

i have two tubs of this delivered every month, on subscription it's about £26 a month and that is 40 servings, I have usually 2 per day which adds 20g protein for 100 calories. It's pricey but an easy way to add protein without adding a lot of calories.

Clear Vegan Protein | Myprotein

Our Clear Vegan Protein is a light and refreshing protein drink made using hydrolysed pea protein — a tasty, fruity alternative to a shake.

I do have a few sensory issues with foods ,which is why my diet is lacking..but I love tofu ..just lack imagination on what to do with it .
Have recently bought a soup maker and been experimenting with lots of veg.
Have bought two bosh cook books for inspiration ..yes use nooch every day ,

There are so many amazing recipes online. Or just add a fistful of lentils to your brown rice in a pot, both cook for 40 min. Use chickpeas flour to make a socca.

You don't need more artificial stuff. You ate plenty of those in the past, they make you fat and unwell. Time to get real. Eat real food with purpose. You can totally overcome sensory issues by exploring way of cooking. You have a soup make, make dhal.

You deserve good food and food that makes you feel good. Yes, it takes time and effort.

You gag? It tastes just like squash :/ are you making it too strong?

Woompund · 05/10/2025 08:08

Get to Lidl, they have a new tofu range and have sweet chilli, basil and marinated as well as the smoked one they do, I buy loads and air fry it in cubes and it's delicious, you can make a very easy meal around it. Also they do tempeh which I don't like much but if you grate it and fry it it adds nice texture and a lot of protein without being offensive to eat

redfishcat · 05/10/2025 10:42

Can you write out what you eat in a day and we can comment and add nutrients to it ?

carlottavaldes · 07/10/2025 17:16

If it was nutrition-related the blood test would have flagged it, but it sounds like that was fine apart from vit D, so I would just make sure you top that up. Most people need to supplement vit D in the UK.

AInightingale · 26/10/2025 16:42

Hi I am the same but it's been worse since I came off HRT, which makes me suspect it's probably more hormone-related. And probably including rock bottom testosterone! (was never on this to begin with). Have heard of women who start to supplement T having a noticeable energy lift, though obtaining it involves an NHS lottery. Helps with muscle building too. Have you had blood work for hormone levels too? If you've been vegan for seven years it's unlikely to be your diet all of a sudden, though a drop in calories can certainly make you tired if you're actively trying to lose weight.

hotchocfiend · 26/10/2025 16:54

I know this is a vegan thread so maybe I’ll be flamed (it came up on the homepage) but… I found a huge difference in energy levels once I reintroduced some red meat (beef) once a week after being vegetarian. I can only imagine without dairy too you may find the vegan diet is just not enough for your particular make up. If you have ethical reasons for being vegan that’s one thing, but I think for health it’s not the answer for everybody and animal proteins / fats can be integral.

CantSleepEver · 27/10/2025 18:26

Very kind of you to ask
Yes trying hard with diet and vitamins and weight loss , because being fat must tired the body out to .
I'm actually pleased at how well I'm doing..lots of healthy foods no junk at all ,and trying hard with water intake.
It's a huge effort, and if I'm honest I'd rather just live on toast at the moment.
But I'm not .
I batch cook now ,and freeze meals ready for when I'd otherwise reach for toast

rumred · 29/10/2025 18:06

I'm veggie but I've been knackered at times and I reckon it's iron deficiency. My bloods for iron are 'normal' but at the very low end. I have hassled my GP and got iron tablets - over the counter I could only get weak ones which didn't help. I feel much better for it.
So I'd have a closer look at the numbers on your bloods, you could be on the low end and as an individual that may be problematic.

It sounds like you’re keeping it up despite it being hard. Well done, be proud of yourself because it’s bloody hard when you feel tired and depressed. I really hope you’re feeling better soon. 💐
