Best oat milk for cereal

swizzlestix · 14/06/2025 08:08

Hoping to buy some today but heard they vary a lot. It doesn't need to taste good in tea or coffee as I don't drink that. Just looking for one that works well on cereal - thank you

Aldi's barrista style oat milk is good

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 14/06/2025 14:00

Oatly. Supermarkets sell it and you can get the fresh oatly from most milkmen.

EleventyThree · 14/06/2025 14:03

Alpro no sugars. I find other brands really watery. It's often on offer in Tesco and Morrisons, either chilled or uht.

Forgottenmyphone · 14/06/2025 14:20

Oatly Original and Moma have the thickest, whole-milk consistency. Moma is slightly sweeter.

Lavendersong · 14/06/2025 15:00

I only like the blue Oatly one but everyone has different taste buds.

redboxer321 · 14/06/2025 15:14

I wouldn't have barista for coffee. Just something light. Alpro and Oatley are good. Some are pretty rank imo but some people must like them so I guess it's a matter of trying and seeing what you like.

2 years of experience of trying all brands... Def Aldi own brand is by far the best.
Better than the expensive brands...
By far imo.
And the cheapest!!

SwanFlight · 14/06/2025 15:19

Mandatory: 'make your own' comment. Out of all the milks oat milk is easy.

bestbefore · 14/06/2025 15:34

Tesco own make.

marshmallowfinder · 14/06/2025 15:44

All oat milks except Plenish, contain oil. I don't want to be gulping down oil. So Plenish for me.

swizzlestix · 15/06/2025 02:40

Thanks all this is really helpful- I will do some taste tasting if what you suggested

I really like Oato for cereal if I have some. Otherwise I use califia farms barista for eveymrything.

dudsville · 25/06/2025 12:27

I think the best milk for everything is no added sugar soya personally.

GooseOnMyGrave · 25/06/2025 12:29

Honestly I think they are all really similar, as long as you give them a good shake I haven’t found any to be particularly watery.

greencartbluecart · 25/06/2025 12:31

I like the basic oatly ( not fridge, that’s too rich. and hate the califia one so really it’s a matter of personal taste

Agree I have that in cereal and Oatly in coffee.

But contains vegetable oil. Drinking oil? No thanks!

Don't most plant-based "milks" contain oil...?

Absolutely. That oil is disgusting after all they do to it. There's also an Oatly one that doesn't have oil - it's just oats and water (beige packaging, the long life one). I prefer it to Plenish. Neither were available a few weeks ago at my local supermarket so I buy the Oatly one on subscription from Amazon now - works out at around £1.40 each.

Yes. Look at the packaging. Nothing wrong with cold-pressrd oil, it's the heat-treatment changing the oil that's the problem.

NCembarassed · 29/06/2025 08:48

If you want a similar mouth feel to cows milk, just make sure it's a barista style.

I like dairy, but a) can't drink much myself or I become ill; and b) DD is lactose intolerant. Hospital advise no dairy/sheep/goat products at all.

We all find barista oat milk the best substitute for us. Brand doesn't matter. Just remember to jiggle the carton before each use.

Yes, I know. The above comment that I quoted suggested that the Aldi brand was worth avoiding as if it was the only one that contained oil

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 29/06/2025 09:42

Oatly also contains oil. Have just read an interesting article from their manufacturers...

Ahsheeit · 29/06/2025 10:31

I get mine from the milkman, and it's good on my shreddies
