Best milk substitute for tea?

I have almond milk in my cereal and soya milk in my coffee. Which is the best plant milk for a good old cup of tea please? I've heard oat milk is great tasting but concerned about the blood sugar spikes, having said that I might be overly concerned about this?

Thoughts and advice much appreciated Blush

oatly barista style is the best, I don’t think it gives me blood sugar spikes? Have been having plant oat milk for about three years now and tried lots of others, definitely avoid the minor figures one it makes horrid tea!

Plenish oat milk!

Oat milk. Doesn't have to be the barrista ones, they're only very slightly thicker. Though they are better for frothing but you wouldn't want that in tea.
I guess the sugar in it would depend on how much you put in. I only use a splash myself.

I'd go with oat milk too as the best all rounder for tea and coffee. Almond is awful in coffee unless it's got a bazillion squirts of syrup in too.

No sugars soya milk for me. I can't stand sweet tea and oat milk is too sweet for me.

Edwina8320 · 26/01/2025 19:37

I think oat milk is delicious in tea.

Have you considered no milk. I drink black tea and coffee. It is so easy and once I got used to it I like the taste.

I find the Lidl, Aldi and Alpro unsweetened oat milks are the best for tea, and fine on cereal. I find the barista ones too creamy - I don't want creamy tea! Agree that the Minor Figures one is awful, and I've had another terrible one I can't remember the name of. Maybe Rude Health?

For no-milk tea I prefer Chinese green tea (leaves) but I also like fruity teas, admittedly they don't hit the spot like a proper brew...

oat milk is a good all round milk for me but rice comes a close second. some soya seems ok but lots of it is bleeeuk

Yes definitely if you use really good quality tea or coffee you don't need the milk as much

I love rice milk but never buy it any more as not suitable for children under age 5. But then I'm giving them the expensive Alpro growing up milk anyway and using other stuff in my coffee so I may as well just buy some just for me 😂

I prefer the cheapest unsweetened soy milk. Tescos own brand, it's 50p but it's what I like. Love coconut milk in coffee.

TinyMouseTheatre · 23/02/2025 14:16

Took me a couple of weeks to adjust but now I drink mine black. I've never found a substitute that I like apart from Almond Milk and I don't like that one in tea.

HarrietJonesFlydaleNorth · 25/02/2025 18:59

I prefer the most basic unsweetened soy milk in pretty much everything.

Oat milk is also good in tea though.

Phunkychicken · 25/02/2025 19:01

bonsoy soy milk. Or Alpro my cuppa

UpEarly · 27/03/2025 15:27

Splash of oat milk. I prefer it to all other milks now! Love it.

FatherFrosty · 27/03/2025 16:12

Oat milk but the barista one.
I make my porridge with water as it feels wrong with oat milk, like cooking them with the juices of their fallen Grin

Coconutter24 · 27/03/2025 16:23

Oat milk for tea. It also goes really nice on cereals, far nicer than almond milk
