PETA video, sexual abuse of turkeys

damsonnatter · 22/11/2024 17:10

WARNING ⚠️ it's an incredibly difficult watch
But PETA have recently released a video on their Instagram which details secret reporting of a large turkey factory in the states where workers are submitting defenceless birds to physical and sexual abuse.

How can 'humans' do this?
I'm not vegan, but I've been giving it some serious thought recently. How can we keep burying our heads and believing that our meat is killed humanely.

Until there is reduced demand for intensive animal farming, how can we live believing that these things don't happen?

If 'humans' can do this to defenceless animals, how can we believe women or children to be safe from these same predators who are not held accountable due to lack of animal right and protection

I can't bear to watch it, but I can fully believe this goes on. But people want to bury their heads and pretend it doesn't. It's so depressing.

Tillow4ever · 22/11/2024 17:40

'Humans' or MEN op?

I suspect the latter.

decisionsdecisionsdecision · 22/11/2024 17:48

This is a disgusting title op. For those who struggle with intrusive images, I do but need this in my life. I wish everyone on here would be more sensitive about what they put in their titles. I've related it, and I'll give it, but it's too late. The images are in my head now.

damsonnatter · 22/11/2024 17:54

I'm sorry if I've caused offence with the title. I just wanted to raise awareness. It's also disgusting it's happening. I appreciate anyone brave enough to engage with this post, petas post, raise awareness or consider an alternative meal option this Christmas.

Yes, it appears to be men

The title is fine. People should know what's going on and not buy their heads in the sand.

I have been posting videos on my Facebook today about these beautiful creatures to show people they aren't just food.

These videos are all rescues -

I am vegan op and will be for life.

The land of hope and glory is a disturbing insight into what happens in uk farms, it makes for truly unbearable viewing.

These poor helpless animals and we are destroying our planet by farming them so intensively too so it's also self destructive and harmful to the human race.

Soubriquet · 22/11/2024 18:05

I am wary about trusting anything from PETA. They are known to actively abuse an animal just to video it for their cause

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 22/11/2024 18:06

I'm afraid I can't watch it but have no issue with you raising awareness. I haven't eaten meat since I was a child and never will.

That’s a huge statement to make. Proof please?

damsonnatter · 22/11/2024 18:10

Thank you for the support

I'm vegetarian and have been for years but I haven't made the step to veganism 🌱 think it might be time.

You think there's a chance PETA are the ones sexually abusing turkeys?

No!! No but there are times where they do stuff for the camera. They also euthanise so many animals

bakewellbride · 22/11/2024 18:21

@damsonnatter I was vegetarian for years and years but made the move to veganism just over a year ago. At first I was anxious about it but I can't begin to tell you how amazing and life changing it has been. I feel SO much healthier, the difference is insane.

HIP chocolate is delicious, Google it. Oat milk is in every supermarket. After a few weeks you will not miss cheese. Now that I think about it and where it comes from I am actually repulsed by it, the psychology in the change is quite fascinating.

I truly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything- there are vegan alternatives to pretty much everything in sainsburys, pie, quiche, pudding you name it.

Amanda ducks on YouTube is brilliant.

I keep my iron up by having a handful of raw spinach daily. I add it to a protein shake with banana and peanut butter so I don't even taste it, it's delicious. My iron levels have actually increased since becoming vegan as confirmed by a blood test, I am full of everything I need and it's so cheap. I love it.

TomatoSandwiches · 22/11/2024 18:21

We need a cull of certain men imo, you can not rehabilitate men such as these.

Wherethewildthingsfart · 22/11/2024 18:25

Sadly I’m not surprised. More people need to be made aware that this is happening and that it isn’t that uncommon (not just turkeys).

Wonderi · 22/11/2024 18:53

No they don’t.
What a ridiculous thing to say.

Why would you want to bad mouth a company who’s goal is to get ethical treatment for animals.

Do you think the NSPCC abuse kids for videos too?

Wonderi · 22/11/2024 18:57

If you eat meat, it’s important to get it from the UK even if imported meat is much cheaper.

The slaughter houses here are not perfect, there is abuse that happens but the conditions are (meant to be) regulated and checked up on with higher standards of welfare.

Butchers who get meat from local slaughter houses and farms are much more humane too as it’s often the transporting of animals that is the worst part for them.

WomanFromTheNorth · 22/11/2024 19:19

There is lots of abuse that goes on here too. Lots of undercover videos show the horrific treatment of animals in the uk - some at Rspca "assured" farms. It's sickening. Don't fool yourself that buying British makes it ok. It really doesn't. The public should know what goes on.

Absolutely but the conditions in other countries aren’t regulated at all.

So if people choose to eat meat, then eating British meat is a better option than other countries.

Since leaving the EU we’ve stopped transporting live animals (I believe) and this was one of the worst parts of animal slaughter.

Hopefully we will continue to make slaughtering animals more humane.

kikisparks · 22/11/2024 20:55

Bear in mind the inspection system is a failure here in the UK, I read the other day that the stats are:

The report by Animal Equality and The Animal Law Foundation uncovered a shocking lack of monitoring and enforcement of animal protection laws.
On average between 2018 and 2021:

  • Fewer than 3% of UK farms were inspected every year—meaning 97 out of 100 farms were not formally inspected
  • Only half (50.45%) of farms that received complaints for animal welfare concerns were subsequently inspected
  • Of those inspections, around one-third (31.38%) of farms were found in non-compliance.
  • Just .33% of farms were prosecuted following the initial complaint
kikisparks · 22/11/2024 20:58

Vegan for 14 years. Never looked back. If you need any help or advice to make the change, happy to offer it.

Yes, I see what you're saying. You are right in a way. But I think the danger is that we think this only happens elsewhere and the truth is that it happens here too.
