I am vegetarian, but my baby is allergic to soy, dairy, eggs and nuts. Its quite a bad allergy so not sure she will grow out of it.

Is there a vegan cheese that you can cook with and melts.
Also any other ideas or links to cakes and all those nice foods but without all the things listed above?

I dont mind cooking from scratch, but most dairy free ingredients seems to be subsituted with soy :(

It's sold in quite a few places, Sainsburys, Waitrose. You can get a block or get it grated
I have it on Pizza

I second applewood! It melts so well and the smoky flavour is yum too

rfr · 01/09/2023 17:36

Also, how about sheep or goats cheese?

Daftasabroom · 01/09/2023 17:39

DS does a good mushroom stroganoff with light coconut milk instead of cream or soy. Leftovers with extra stock make a great soup, so might be whizzable for pre solids. Not sure about cheese sorry.

If you haven't already join main group cmpa on Facebook as loads of new foods for allergies are posted on there.

We like apple Woods too or the vegan cathedral city grated

Oh thank you so much, this is all great. @rfr possibly..i will have to check with hospital dietician.
@Daftasabroom ooh didnt think of coconut milk, i will try that too.
@Lostmumdotcom i dont have any social media :( it doesnt let you look at anything unless you have an account. :(

Also this might be silly question. But can babies eat avocado? I use it a lot and some vegan cakes use it..

Yes babies 6m+ can eat avocado. Great food for them

This is the best vegan chocolate cake www.carnation.co.uk/recipes/vegan-chocolate-fudge-cake The secret is the vegan condensed milk which is soy and nut free.

With so many allergies, you might have to seriously consider including some meat and fish in your/ your baby's diet to avoid nutritional deficiencies. Shop bought vegan cheese and so on aren't exactly nutritionally dense.

kikisparks · 08/09/2023 08:31

Can you speak to a registered dietician? I weaned my baby (now toddler) with plant based foods but soya and nut butters have been great protein sources for her and I’d be worried if I couldn’t use those.

In meantime I would focus on including in the meals you offer every day:

Lentils
Peas
A variety of beans
Leafy green veg
Whole grains
Ground seeds- maybe source some sunflower seed butter, and I haven’t used them myself but hemp seeds are a complete protein.

MarshyMcMarshFace · 08/09/2023 08:45

Sounds hard OP!

How old is your baby?

Vegan cheese is an ultra processed food.

Do you have a paediatric dietician advising you?

Hi There, my son who is now 16 was born allergic to all diary (milk protein in particular- which rules out all mammal milk), soya, nuts, beans, egg- coconut milk (oil is ok in small doses) he’s anaphylactic- it’s been a journey!

when he was a baby he would be rushed to hospital if someone spread his jam after using a knife that had been in butter.

corn oil is a great substitute when baking- when small we’d make lots of fruit jelly, rice Kristy cakes.

id be happy to chat- a little late to the msg- I found the page looking for vegan cake bakers- who don’t use- nuts or soya as alternatives- he’s turning 16- the free from world has moved along leaps and bounds in 16
