sandwiches and crisps won’t keep you full, they’re pretty much pure carbs. You need protein

C1N1C · 04/10/2022 20:29

Try nuts. Lots if protein and good source of natural oils

aniamana · 04/10/2022 20:30

peanuts, beans - chickpeas, black beans, lentils, stuff made with chickpea flour etc etc; protein. vegan greek style yogurt.

dudsville · 04/10/2022 20:31

Sainsburys stock a nice range of ready seasoned/cooked lentils and beans from a range of flavours. Comes in packs of about 350 calories. They're tasty and filling.

lljkk · 04/10/2022 20:33

Why are you limiting calories (or are you having trouble reaching 1750 )?

ApolloandDaphne · 04/10/2022 20:38

I've just had a lentil and cauliflower Dahl which was easy to make, tasty and very filling. I didn't put the chickpeas in.

You need protein and fat, especially fat.

Nuts, peanut butter, coconuts, coconut oil, 85%/90% chocolate

Fat bombs?
Equal volumes (espresso mug) of coconut oil and nut butter melted together. Add half the volume of cocoa powder. Optional sweetener of your choice, dried fruit, vanilla extract.
Pour into silicone cupcake moulds 1cm deep or a larger dish to cut later.
Keep in freezer.

I’m really really fat ,so limiting calories..I find nuts are like crisps I can’t stop and end up eating 900 calls in one go.
starting to actually think there’s something wrong with me ,I’m always hungry ..but someone said up thread protein..and yes I don’t think im eating enough protein

What high iron foods do you eat, OP?

Chateaudiaries · 05/10/2022 13:36

Protein. Try making up a quinoa salad with some veg, chickpeas and a nice dressing. Then portion it out for lunches during the week. It will stop you reaching for the sandwiches and crisps. Save those for the weekend.

Also dhal, so easy high in protein.

Palmfrond · 05/10/2022 13:46

Quinoa or bulgur salad with chickpeas and/or lentils (big brown ones) beans etc, chopped bits of whatever veg you like, peppers, spring onion, and what makes it super tasty is cook/toast some nuts in a pan with a bit of oil, deglaze the pan with balsamic and/or light soy sauce. Sounds like a faff but I can eat it all day (and I’m a meat eater).
Crisps and bread will get you nowhere fast.
Houmouss and pitta bread is a winner too, pretty much off the shelf (heat the pitta beforehand)
I think making big batches of really tasty hearty stews is good, partition them up and freeze. Chickpea, spinach, cook in a good thick tomato sauce with lots of ginger and garlic. Get a good vegetarian cookbook basically, swap out dairy for whatever.
Good luck!

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 05/10/2022 13:49

I pressure cook a big batch of black beans, pinto beans, black lentils, rye and spelt at the start of the week and then just add stuff - chuck them into a salad, use as the base for a stir fry instead of rice and noodles, stir into roasted veg and add feta... Super healthy and filling, and easy.

No iron foods I can think of ,but I take vegan vitality vitamins every day .
i know full well my diet is atrocious,in my defence I’ve numerous dc with autism ,all all have very limited foods they will eat ,and it’s impossible trying to put together a family meal everyone will eat .I’m often making 2/3 different meals ,then I just have a sandwich, and worse it’s a shop bought sandwich so I can count calories..I’m also a whisker away from an autism diagnosis,,I can manage slimy foods ,sauces ,the starch from potatoes or pasta ,..I eat the same meal 3 times a day for weeks then it changes to something else …
I know I need to change ,but it’s going against life long forces ,of turning to crisps when stressed and anxious ,and struggling with texture and smell..
I can cook a meal I think I am going to eat ,then I can’t manage the smell when it’s done ,so I have toast and crisps ..I’m so so tired ,and I’m not sleeping at night ,I lay awake for hours every night ..I’ve been vegan 5 years and vegetarian my whole life

That book is very good. I have it.

I find I need to have protein in every meal, and I usually add at least one green vegetable to lunch and dinner too.

Have you heard of the Doctor's Kitchen? Most of his recipes are vegan (or easily veganised) and are nutritionally balanced.

paulmccartneysbagel · 08/10/2022 15:04

Oh and try having wholegrain if you can - brown bread instead of white, wholemeal pasta... they're higher in protein and fibre and will fill you up more

paulmccartneysbagel · 08/10/2022 15:07

Sorry I've just seen that you don't like pasta. You could try quinoa or couscous, something like that instead of pasta in dishes.
