Another bloody air fryer thread....If you are vegan do you use an air fryer

We don't each much beige food or quorn type stuff. We have the odd breakfast at home and some oven chips once a month but that's it.

I just don't know what we'd use one for (same for a slow cooker) but I'm open to advice.

I used mine for tofu if that helps. We do cook alot of chips or roast potatoes in it as we grow the spuds and sometimes just a quick peel chop a teaspoon of oil and we are having toasties in 25 mins. I use them for bought pies etc (veggie not vegan) and for cooking veg really fast eg sometimes I do onions, peppers, courgettes and chilli in a dash of oil and they are done before any pasta is cooked.

My quickest roast is potatoes in for 15 mins then chuck in the veg and a tart and they all cook together so all I have to do separately is gravy or a tomato sauce. I used it at lunch for felafel.

Ok thanks, I'm still not sure it's worth it for us

Mine's just arrived OP. I've already used it for crispy tofu (unbelievably easy and better results than oven) and for the batch of roasted veggies I do every week for lunches etc.

They're ace for jacket potatoes. Mini pizza, garlic bread slices. Pies. Anything that will fit. It's basically a tiny oven.

I've used for roasted veg, roast potatoes and I even made a vegan cake in it the other day. It's way more efficient than using my oven.

I'm not vegan but I use the air fryer a lot for veg.

I do courgette, peppers, aubergine with garlic and herbs.
Broccoli with soy and sesame (gets a slight burnt crunch to the edges)
Kale crisps
Obviously roast potatoes
Jacket potatoes (microwave first, finish in the air fryer).
Pizza (depending on the sizes)

Cakes.

What do you use your main oven for?

It's just a tiny oven, which heats up quickly and cooks quickly because it is tiny.

I've had mine about 2 months. I've list it done wedges and flapjack!

Wow I did not realise you can bake cakes in it. Just actual normal recipe cakes?!

And pizza?!?!? Wow

I think because it's an air FRYER I just thought it was for frying things. Obviously we don't fry cakes or pizza or flapjacks or jacket potatoes

The name is a bit misleading tbf. It's basically just a little super fan oven. I don't see different results from the bake and air fryer setting on mine. Can use them Interchangeably.

I've been reading the billion threads on air fryers still not convinced but the revelation that you can do cakes has made my mind up.
I agree the name is misleading as even when I've read about what people are making in them I've still been assuming all these things are being fried somehow or not cooked 'normally'.
I'm not vegan but I do make a lot of vegan cakes/puddings due to food allergies so this would save us a ton of electricity use.

Basically it's a mini oven that cooks things quicker than a normal oven. So if you already put lots of things in an oven then you would use an airfryer. If you don't then it's not worth getting one.

We had one but everything had a rancid chemical taste that never faded. The heated plastic just infested the food with chemical taste; it was foul.

I now use a mini glass halogen heated tabletop oven. Free of bad taste and a much better econony than an oven.

i'm really sensitive to chemicals both taste and smell and have never had that from an air fryer, perhaps yours was dodgy?

I roast veg and potatoes in mine. Great for heating up bread rolls, Nan bread, pittas. Spring rolls, onion bhajis. Roasting gnocchi
i keep finding more uses for mine

Perhaps, although I've seen reviews across multiple brands speaking of chemical tastes. I am happy with the halogen oven as it is a real money saver over using the normal oven.

We have used our almost every day since we got it 6 months ago. I love doing veggies in it, just this week we have had.... asparagus and tender stem broccoli to top a risotto done in just a few mins with a lovely charred edge. Roasted peppers for soups or to add to hummus for wraps, roast and jacket potatoes, parsnip crisps, roast sweet potato cubes and tofu cubes for a salads or curries. Roasting aubergine before adding to a lentil curry. Warming bread, cooking part baked roles to go with soup, heating a bowl of veg chilli.... We haven't used the main oven more than a handful of times since we got it.

I'm not vegan but thought the same as you OP. I eat loads of veg so have replaced frying peppers onions, courgettes, roasting aubergines, parsnips etc etc with cooking in the air fryer. It saves me time as I don't need to stir the veg, just give an occasional shake. Baked potatoes are ace too. I do object to a little icon on the air fryer indicating how long it takes to cook items including pork! Yuk!!!

I'd like some recipes/ timings etc if people want to share? Not a clue how long to do onions etc in.
We use it for quorn and chips a lot. Would love to know re tofu.

We use ours for tofu, it makes the best tofu I've ever had at home.
