Can you please recommend me a 'route' for going vegan?

I can't do it overnight. I've tried and felt like absolute shit.

My main concerns are the planet and animal welfare. A friend said that going omni -> veggie -> vegan probably isn't the best, as dairy is worse than chicken for example (for the planet and possibly for animal welfare).

Or should I do certain days plant based every week and omni the rest?

If you gradually moved to vegan, how did you do it please?

@coronabeer

Not sure if you've heard of the 22-day challenge? Theory being that it takes 3 weeks to embed a new habit, so if you try being vegan for 22 days, it should stick. Anyway, there's a website about it and if you sign up for the challenge (free), then there is lots of support available online with advice and suggestions.

Is there anything in particular you're concerned about? What are the things you think you'll find hardest to go without in the future?

Thanks; main concern is feeling tired. I managed to eat vegan when I was at university, as I didn't have a lot on 🤣. I was a terrible student and that's why I got a 2:2.

Since working and having kids, when I've tried to go vegan 'cold turkey' in recent years, I've been wiped! Maybe it was actual anemia though as I did lose quite a lot of blood during a c section and maybe I hadn't fully recovered 🤔. Maybe it would be alright now and I should just try it..

If you feel tired on a vegan diet, I think the main reasons would be lack of vitamin B12 and/or iron. So you could start taking a daily vegan supplement to prevent this. Another reason might just be too few calories or a diet high in refined foods which will lead to lots of swings in your blood sugar.

I can honestly say that I feel less tired rather than more since I moved from being a vegetarian to a vegan. But I have also made an effort to eat more healthily overall, so lots more fruit, veg and legumes than before and much less processed food. After a while, processed food starts to lose its appeal, it really does.

You could maybe look at the website Forks over Knives for ideas about healthy eating which would hopefully help deal with the fatigue.

With regard to dairy, I would recommend oat milk as a substitute for cows milk. The no added sugar kind is better in tea (in my opinion), and the normal stuff is good in coffee. But other milks are available which you might prefer. Lots of vegan swaps for other kinds of dairy - butter, yoghurt, cream. You could try avoiding dairy other than cheese to start with, if you think you'll miss cheese too much. (Or, given that your main motivation is animal welfare, you can just ask yourself if you like cheese so much that you are prepared to let an animal suffer to provide it).
