I’m a numpty. I thought I had some in the freezer.
What shall I use instead?

Or ditch the menu choice and make something else?

Have you got tinned lentils?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/01/2022 16:54

I was going to say tinned lentils too

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 04/01/2022 16:54

Lentils, or chop mushrooms finely and fry them to remove plenty of liquid before using like mince

Ballstothewall · 04/01/2022 16:55

Cross post, sounds like you're sorted!

Lentils, or chickpeas, or chopped mushrooms and nuts (or chestnuts if left over)

Shedmistress · 04/01/2022 16:56

I substitue grated carrot for soya mince in my chillis.

PurpleDaisies · 04/01/2022 16:56

I’d use those. Drain and rinse them and maybe give them a quick blast in the microwave. I wouldn’t fry them. I’d do the rest of the stuffing and just stir them through at the end.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 04/01/2022 16:57

I don't suppose you have any of the dried/de-hydrated mince?
Otherwise, maybe crumbled up tofu or tempeh (lightly fried), crumbled up veggie sausage/burger/bacon slices/kebab/'chickn' strips? Obviously depends on whether you have any of these things in the house!

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 04/01/2022 17:50

Thanks everyone
I used grated carrot and the tin of lentils (drained). The mixture is quite dry and powdery. What shall I do/add?

Tomatoes, tomato puree?

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 04/01/2022 17:59

I was thinking that too but it’s a whole new flavour isn’t it?

Just use some stock to thin it a little

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 04/01/2022 18:12

I’m so pleased you said that ponkydonkey, as that’s what I did Smile
