Has anyone here done this? We have land and we grow fruit and veg. We're very lucky to live in a tropical climate so we don't get any cold/frost and are able to grow stuff all year round.
Right now we are not vegan. We keep a few chickens for the eggs. We have some quails that we eat. We have bees for honey. Obviously these things are not vegan. A lot of our meals include these animal products.
I've been becoming more and more aware of our environmental impact. I used to tell myself that we weren't part of the problem because we're not buying any mass produced animal products and we're producing almost all of our own food. But now I'm learning more about the environmental impact of animal products and I'm not so sure anymore. I think it might not be ok for us to eat quail meat and chicken eggs.
I think I'm at a bit of a cross roads. I'm really lucky to be in a position to control where almost all of my food comes from so I feel I need to take some responsibility here and start making better choices. Is it ok for me to eat the eggs from my chickens? They have a grand old time in our garden. They are very well looked after. Does that make it Ok? Is it environmentally efficient? And if we do go vegan and stop eating eggs, quail and honey... will I need more space than I currently have to go vegan? What plant based protein sources will be easy for us to grow? Without honey, how will I make any sweet treats?
Sorry for my ramblings. I'm quite new to the vegan thing and I don't know how it all works. I need help. If I can come up with a workable plan to make our land vegan then I might be able to get the whole family on board.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading.
