My teenager has recently become vegan. He's been very sensible about it, eating extremely well. Lots of fruit, veg, oats, seeds, nuts, beans, lentils and some vegan treats too. Anyway, I decided I may as well eat with him and over the last week an a half, I've become vegan too. I thought I'd feel weak and hungry but I feel great! I have suffered so much with tiredness most of my life and I know this is way tmi but I have suffered from chronic constipation since I was a child and its totally cured it by changing my diet. I'm hoping I may lose some weight too! My energy levels seem much more consistent and feel more energised. I'm also taking supplements of Algae omega and b12.

I've always eaten healthily; veggie, but since giving up dairy my "hay fever' has stopped along with a permanent runny nose and cough.

It's great isn't it? Grin

That's great! My ds gets bad hay-fever, will be interested to see if his symptoms change!

Beside I take a good echinacea supplement if I give in to temptation with goats or sheep's soft cheese. It's really effective for those symptoms.

Less mucus when I have a cold
Regular 'good' bowel movements
Less windy / less smelly (yes it's a surprise!)
Clearer skin

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2021 13:33

1940 I don't seem to get colds any more! I certainly don't get sore throats or flu any more! I think it might depend on the plant milk one drinks, dh seems to be allergic to the ones with sunflower oil in. I know I can't drink the ones with rape seed oil in them.

My blood pressure has gone down to good levels. My BP spiked after having my third dc and it went normal, but over a year later (after not eating so healthy and perhaps drinking more days then I should!) it spiked again. Because I’m slim and under 40, this scared me. I didn’t want to be on medication for life. Changed diet to whole foods plant based 80 percent of the time. The other percent I allow for some convenient vegan foods like oat bar, bread, a meat substitute when making a pasta dish (I think the fake meats and cheeses aren’t great for you; so I don’t eat often like once a week or less!). This worked and my BP came right down. I also lost weight, but managed to stop this as I was already slim. More energy. Going number 2 more often. Still waiting for more glowing skin though. Was hoping I would see more of a difference w skin since quitting coffee and eating healthier. Didn’t notice much of a difference even w no drinking alcohol for a month!

My IBS disappeared.
DH’s heart pain and palpitations stopped.

yahyahs22 · 13/08/2021 07:20

No more random aches and pains. My bowl movements are like clockwork and, erm cough solid. I only eat when I'm hungry. I don't get anywhere as ill as I used to and when I do get ill, even with covid, I'm not bed bound, just the sniffles. But the biggest change has to be the amount of people asking me where I get my protein from. I just remind them animals have to eat protein to make protein...I cut out the middle man!
Also I'm pregnant and have a lot more energy than other pregnant women I know.

I did veganuary last year, hoping for health benefits and actually kept it up until shopping got difficult in March. I'm still eating predominantly plant based.

I enjoyed the food and found cooking without meat was much more straightforward. I saved money.

My diet was already "healthy", but did include a fair amount of dairy and eggs and some meat and fish. I can't say I noticed any health benefits at all.

Mamabear12 · 13/08/2021 10:53

KhalliWhalli Oh yes, I forgot about that important one. Same for me. I only had it a short amount of time (the heart pain and palpitations), but the diet nipped it in the bud.

Kintsugi16 · 19/08/2021 06:37

Constipation - gone
IBS - gone
Clearer skin

It was giving up dairy milk that made the biggest difference. There’s no going back for me!

minatrina · 19/08/2021 07:11

Bit of a weird one but... my sweat stopped smelling when I went vegan! No clue if it's a coincidence or something that other people experience too

Kintsugi16 · 19/08/2021 08:13

My verrucca I’d had for 12 years went within a month

Strokethefurrywall · 27/09/2021 18:50

Reduced asthma
Better skin
Zero gastritis attacks
Better gut health
Less menstrual pain
No energy slumps
Weight loss
Quicker recovery from workouts
Feel much lighter in myself

I hadn't actually noticed until I read this thread, but the constant hay-fever like symptoms - runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes - I have experienced from for at least the past decade - gone.

The urgent dash to the loo each morning, also gone.

Daughter's acne has cleared up almost completely with no change other than giving up dairy and eggs (was already vegetarian, as was I).

Feel a bit more energised in general.

I can also say, hand on heart, that I never suspected for one moment that dairy and/or eggs were a problem (in a health sense) for either of us. My experience to date suggests I was probably mistaken.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 08/01/2022 17:13

I've just gone from vegetarian to vegan permanently and I've most definitely lost weight. I feel more clear headed, I do take vitamin and mineral supplements because I can't eat a huge amount.
My skin and hair has really improved not to mention (TMI) bowels are amazing.
I don't eat junk food though, I cook fresh or frozen veg everyday.

AD3000 · 16/01/2022 22:11

None, I feel just the same other than I actually put weight on Confused

Nouveaunew · 27/02/2022 20:17

Why do you think you put on weight by going vegan @AD3000 did you need to gain weight, do you think?
