Advice for keeping a healthy weight

I turned Vegan this year and have piled on the lbs a bit. I think it is far more to do with comfort eating during Covid than going plant based. But after making an effort to get on top of things over the past few weeks I’m not making any progress. Has anyone had a similar issue they managed to overcome or have any advice about pitfalls to avoid?

Do you properly portion pasta/potatoes?
Are you eating lots of vegan treats?
I just put a recipe into my fitness pal -the happy pear, vegan bounty bars- They are tiny but nearly 400 calories each. That’s more calories than a sandwich! not vegan btw it’s just their food always looks delicious but, just because it’s ‘healthy’, doesn’t meal it isn’t calorific. A small avocado has around 160 calories. Nuts are healthy but calorific, peanut butter around 100 calories per teaspoon - my point being that, unless you are using good portion control, it’s easy to over eat calories. Maybe try weighing and logging things on an app such as My Fitness Pal and finding out how many calories you are actually consuming compared to how many you actually need.

I think loads of people have put on weight due to Covid stresses. Could you swap out the junk for bulky low cal food (raw carrots). Or, I lost the lockdown weight (not that much, but a few pounds) by doing intermittent fasting. Without calorie counting. But of course, the calorie count drops when you cut out breakfast and lunch! Could be worth trying?

It is not about what you are not eating, so animal product, but about what you eat.
Are you eating the VEG part of vegan or just 50 shades of beige? Do you eat a lot of processed food, from crisps to vegan ice cream?
try to switch to whole food plant based.
Use cronometer.com during 3 days to report honestly every single morsel.

Yeah, a vegan diet isn't automatically healthy. I go through periods of piling on the weight yet have been vegan for many years. I can also lose it as well, but its the usual- cutting out cake and biscuits and chocolate, processed crap etc and going back to basics - loads of fresh fruit and veg, smaller amounts of carbs and stuff, mainly eating whole foods.
