I have been attempting a vegan diet for the last couple of weeks. Not super rigid (if someone makes me a meal I'll eat what I'm given), but have generally stuck to it. The downside is that my stomach feels weird most of the time and I am horrendously gassy. Is this normal? Does it go away? My son has been abusing me saying I need to start eating meat again for the sake of the environment!

It does get better! Have you been eating a lot of lentils by any chance?

Some people react badly to quorn. That might be worth giving a miss to see if it helps.

Tell your son to wind his neck in, and you can try to settle your diet suitable for your digestive system.

My teen DD is trying to stick to a vegan diet and is also finding difficult. She has to avoid chickpea as they give her wind. She uses black beans in —bloody everything— most recipes.

Try different ingredients and see what works.

A good way to avoid 'wind' is to eat fruit on an empty stomach not straight after a meal e.g. for breakfast (not mixed into muesli).

Also to try to not eat proteins with carbs at your meal. Yes chickpeas are terrible for wind as are kidney beans. Black beans are good. Have some salad with your meal too. Lentils suit some people but not all of course , we're all different. It does take a while for your gut to get used to more fibre in your diet, I take a gentian\betaine supplement that helps a lot.
