I'm really struggling with DS (16 months) not having dairy (makes him poorly). I don't have it which is obviously not a problem but he gets so upset he can't have what everyone else can at groups and parties and I've just had yet another sleepless night with the poor thing really upset and struggling bc he managed to sneak a bite of another todders' malted milk which she left in the play kitchen sink... Groups and social situations can be so difficult that I've been considering doing the milk ladder with him but also don't want to put him through it and don't really "agree with" dairy myself anyway for various reasons. But with a toddler who loves food, wants everything everyone else has, and puts everything he finds in his mouth, it is HARD.

Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

If it's making him poorly not having dairy than that's telling you all you need to know really. Can you buy organic at least.

Sorry that was badly worded. I meant he isn't having dairy because the dairy makes him poorly.

Maybe find out what dairy free treats you can get and make it special and exciting, put them in a special treat box (Maybe even wrap them up with wrapping paper and reward him with choosing one of these for good behaviour at home and also have a mini version of the treat box that you can take out with you then when other children are having snacks let him choose one of his special snacks so he will be less tempted to eat what they are eating. And also if you are out at lunch/dinner time then make him a special packed lunch that looks fun (cookie cutters for shaping sandwiches) fruit kebabs, Food allergies are hard when they are this age as they don't understand why they can't have the same as others but it will get easier as he gets older. Good luck

They do lovely plant milks, different flavours too, in those small. straw cartons, if you give him one to take to parties, nursery etc, he won't feel left out.

Thank you, good suggestions! I think it will get easier in time, he's just at an age where he puts everything in his mouth and if that something is a yoghurt topped rice cake someone left in the play centre dolls house it isn't fun for any of us!!
