The perfect Vegan cook book?

cakedup · 14/01/2018 10:57

I'm looking for a vegan cook book who can tick as many of the following boxes as possible:

  1. PICTURES! (a must)
  2. UK author (no ingredients only available in America)
  3. Obtainable ingredients (available in Tesco)
  4. Simple recipes (that don't require 27 ingredients, half a day to make and use every utensil in the kitchen)

IS THERE SUCH A BOOK??? Or do you have a recommendation and how many of my boxes does it tick?!

Maybe Deliciously Ella? Have a look at her blog first. I get lots of ideas from flicking through her books.
Fresh India is amazing, vegetarian not vegan but loads of choice and all very tasty.
To be honest though I find most of my recipes online. Thevegspace.co.uk is good, no wacky ingredients and very simple recipes. Don’t buy her book though, only a few pictures in the middle.

Having scoured amazon for books I don’t think there are many out there that will tick all your boxes, which is a shame really.

Thank you, I will look those websites up. I think you're right about the cookbooks...I've got several I don't even use.

Thug Kitchen. Lots of swearing, but you’re a MN’er, so you’ll be used to that.

Isla Does It. She has a few different books but I think this is the best.

I’m not keen on Deliciously Ella, I find her food a bit messy.

DisabledUserName · 18/01/2018 09:32

It's good we all like different ones. I found thug kitchen too American based and struggled to covert even basics like oven temp without google Blush. But most people rave about it!
I love the Ella ones and live off her recipes (apart from her use of honey as she is plant based not vegan).

DisabledUserName · 18/01/2018 09:34

Though my favourite is deliciously Ella every day.
Didn't realise she had two names deliciously Ella!

cakedup · 18/01/2018 22:20

Thanks Leilaniiii Isa Does It looks good.

But yes, DisabledUserName lots of rave reviews except for a few like you that don't like the americanisms. And the swearing!
As long as they print fuck and not f*ck then I don't mind.

I've always wondered why it was called plant-based instead of vegan!

I rate
Books
*Isa does it
*Keep it vegan (although this has no pictures now I think about it)
*Even more veg (Hugh FW)
*15 minute vegan (although I do end up tweaking most recipes but great as a starting point

Online
*Minimalist baker
*Bosh
*Vegan Richa

cakedup · 21/01/2018 09:12

Keep it vegan Sorry I need the pictures. I have cookbooks without pictures and just never use them. LOVE the idea of 15 min vegan.

I welcome online recommendations too. Already use Minimalist Baker but haven't come across Bosh or Vegan Richa, thanks. Love the look of the Bosh website.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/01/2018 09:14

Bosh is brilliant. I have made several of their recipes.

cakedup · 21/01/2018 09:15

As an aside, I find it really annoying unnecessary for cookbooks to have waste 20 pages going on about nutrition and what utensils you should have in your kitchen. Who reads that?

Not strictly vegan but Anna Jones' A Modern Way To Eat - is s beautiful book & is focused on vegetatables beung the main attraction - she gives vegan versions for everything. I love it.

PaperdollCartoon · 21/01/2018 09:19

It’s not all vegan, but the Middle Eastern Vegetarian Cookbook is my fave and I recommend it highly to everyone.

I picked up ‘Vegan in 7’ yesterday and it looks brilliant, it’s cheap on Amazon I’d give it a look. It’s all simple vegan meals, 7 ingendients or less.

I mostly use Pinterest and general googling, but I love cook books!

PaperdollCartoon · 21/01/2018 09:21

cakedup because Delicously Ella isn’t vegan. She uses honey, she wears wool and leather. Veganism is a whole lifestyle choice not just what you eat.

LaContessaDiPlump · 21/01/2018 09:24

Even more veg (Hugh FW)
Seconded - this book is amazing!
I've been vegan for 3 years and this is one of the best I've found :)

Jigglytuff · 21/01/2018 09:24

Deliciously Ella is a dreadful person who has no idea what sugar-free means and is not actually a chef.

Anna Jones trained with Jamie and I also really recommend her Modern Way to Eat. Her pages on what combination of flavours go with what to make your own twists on her recipes is brilliant. She is a flavour genius and makes a plate of spaghetti and tomatoes taste like heaven :)

Wow1234 · 21/01/2018 09:40

Anna jones books are amazing.
The new high fearnely whittingstall much more veg is also vegan

LoniceraJaponica · 21/01/2018 09:58

Easy Vegan by Sue Quinn is excellent. Ignore the one and two star reviews. They are clearly by people who are rubbish cooks or don't enjoy cooking or have an inbuilt prejudice against vegan food

I say this as an omnivore. The recipes are delicious and I can highly recommend the white bean burgers and the panzanella salad. I made the rich mushroom lasagne last weekend and thought it was nice, but quite frankly would have tasted nicer made with dairy milk and a bit of cheese.
