I’ve heard that Mozzerisella (sp?) is the best, but I’ve never seen that in supermarkets. Is it the best? Where do I get it?

Or are there better alternatives?

Violife pizza cheese.

I just make it as normal (omit the cheese obviously!) then sprinkle it with nooch (nutritional yeast)

All the commercial vegan cheese substitutes I’ve tried so far make my face spotty! My favourite home made one is cashew nuts blended with garlic salt and nooch, it’s like Parmesan shavings.

I like to put blobs of violife cream cheese (like Philadelphia) on top. It melts well (a wee bit funny) but has a nicer taste and texture than violife block cheese. Every major supermarket stocks it too.

Violife pizza cheese is really good.

I'm not a huge lover of vegan cheese but I have tried a lot and this site is fantastic for trying them out, www.vegancheese.co.uk Unfortunately they have been so busy they are not taking new orders for a bit but when they are back up and running it's definitely worth a browse, you can get mozzarisella on there plus one called veganic which is quite good.

I make my own from scratch for pizza (and if I'm just wanting margarita (sp?) I grate Sheese red on top as it is the bestest). The recipe I use is this one advancedlifestylemedicine.com/?page_id=1774. Cashews, tapioca flour, hot water, nooch, salt, lemon juice, and I add garlic powder too. You put the ingredients in a blender then tip it into a saucepan and stir it until it's thick cheesy goodness then pop it on pizza. Once your cashews are soaked it takes about 5 mins to make. I sort of play about with the amounts of flavourings though.

Smoked Moozerella. It's the same you get at Zizzi's.

You can buy it online and tastes exactly like mozzerella, the only difference is the consistency.

It's also very Edam-ey when you have it uncooked.

I've given up and do a flatbread thing with humous and roasted mediterranean veg instead - I love it, better than any pizza I've ever had! Got the idea from a restaurant we went to.

There is also a good 'cheesy layer' type sauce in Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls' latest book, which might be good as a pizza sauce (it's kind of tomatoey and cheesy at the same time) with veg on top. Its this one:

www.rivercottage.net/recipes/aubergine-and-tomato-gratin

I haven't tried this - it just came to me as I was typing the above - but think I will now! As you can tell, I can not a fan of fake cheese!

To clarify, I have tried the sauce (I made the recipe I linked), but not on pizza. I think it's a very useful sauce and could be good for lasagne type meals as well.
